Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

It’s just a point of reference to show that Geelong got two decent picks back, people love throwing out the line, Geelong paid 3 1st round picks but fail to include that GWS gave back picks 24 and 27, these aren’t late 3rd round junk picks.

So in this instance I think it’s pretty relevant
The calc of that trade being equivalent to #6 are using the current points values? Would have been more back then?

Walsh said he would be a one club player when he was drafted
I know it's just words unless he re-signs but this was a good sign from a Walsh article by Jon Ralph in late-August.

“I love this club and I want to win here. I want to create habits with all my teammates that I love playing with and to be the club we want to be. That is where my mindset is at,” he told this masthead.

“The biggest thing (about staying) is that I came here and have been here seven years now which is a long time. When you come into a team that has finished on the bottom of the ladder, the satisfaction you would get out of turning it into the place you want to be. I want to be building this club into a winning team in coming years and that’s where my mindset is.”

100%
Picks are the currency that the afl give clubs during trade period, I’m not sure why people ignore the fact that you get can change when you make a purchase. Yes, I realise that picks all become speculative after a certain point and a higher number is more likely to get you a better player. But picks get on traded all the time, or used to help move up or down the order, and lower picks often unlock deals for solid players.

On big deals: The Cameron deal worked out to the equivalent of pick 6, but we’ve given over that a couple of times. Cerra was 6 and a f3, the equivalent of pick 5. Judd was more than the equivalent of pick 1, plus a player we took with pick 4. The Cameron deal was also enabled by the Tim Kelly deal - the eagles gave over the value of pick 1 for him.

The points associated with picks are just there for matching bids. I don't think it makes much sense to use them to calculate the value of an overall trade.

Will be interesting to see if SOS lodges the JSOS paperwork 2 minutes before the deadline giving all other clubs that get an end of first round compo a pick before ours. Then we will truely know they hate us 😂

He also said it directly to a friend last week at the GF parade.

An emphatic 'would never play anywhere else'.

Charlie also said he’ll definitely be at Carlton next year, don’t believe anything they say, especially when supporters ask them if they’re going to stay, what do you expect them to say “I’m assessing my options so we’ll see!”

it’s a business and they’re all in it for themselves these days.

Walsh, Walker, Smith. Not a bad centre trio in 2027

Maybe he won’t even lodge the free agency paperwork and instead get him in the pre season draft! That’s something big bad SOS would definitely do.

was thinking the same, especially if F/A compo is crap because of where we finish

Also not convinced Geelong will be up and about next year- may not be that attarctive

And also, Geelong need to do some magic to get Charlie this year
I think that Bailey Smith might have it all.

We are back in contention for the 8 and above from next year.
Our issues were predominantly:
1. above the shoulders stuff that while I cannot explain specifically, I'm 100% convinced were there
2. An amateurish footy dept, particularly Head of Football
3. An obstinate coach who (IMHO) knows he's on thin ice and will finally change bc Wright and Davies will be breathing down his neck
4. Second rate assistants who I believe Wright is addressing

TDK leaving is not a big deal. We don't need a ruckman who is a quasi mid. We just need a good solid ruckman who works in concert with their mids

Smith, Lord, Cowan, Carroll, Moir will all benefit from 2025, Smith will be very hungry

Jack Silvagni will be replaced by Newman

Charlie will make us less predictable (and maybe Khamis, Kemp and Moir) will work well with Harry

And...let's start playing Cripps in the goal square more often. He is almost KPF height

We are back in contention for finals in 2026. Nothing guaranteed but what I firmly believe is this is no mini rebuild...just a clean up and re calibration

I'll be honest, the reasons you've listed out are why I'd be sceptical of their contention status. These are largely nebulous points that even you've described as hard to explain. Point #3 is especially troubling if Voss needs a minder to change. I'd rather success come from him being able to correct his own mistakes and not because Wright is bringing a knife to every meeting they have.

But I am (very) cautiously optimistic that they can be a finals team next year despite my heavy reservations around the coach (less convinced if Charles leaves). But my original point was around thinking next year could be a mini rebuild year for them to get back into contention in 2027. If they're shit next year, then pack it in. It's rebuild #2434, see you in the 30s.

St Kilda are trying to convert a buying spree into relevance.

But assembling a team in one off-season and hoping that it all works out is putting a lot of eggs in one basket.

Not making friends is different from making enemies who you need to work with in the coming years on trades etc.

17 clubs getting in the ear of Mitch Owens, Darcy Wilson, Mattaes Phillipou etc. about the salary they aren't getting

And yet, if this club doesn't achieve anything before the end of decade, I'd be imploring them to do something as reckless as St Kilda to find a different avenue to success.

If you try and try the same worn out path that every other club are on, you're effectively just playing the lottery.

We already tried that, and it's part of the reason we find ourselves in this predicament. We paid overs for too many inconsistent players (Williams, McGovern, Martin), and would've paid for more if SOS had his way.

I just find it hard to believe Charlie is allowed to leave without some seriously good player(s) coming back our way, Vossys coaching for his job next year and I can’t see how he would be ok with us trading a superstar for future picks which aren’t going to help him keep his job
I don't think he is coaching for his job. Fans just start rumours like that.

His contract runs out next year and by any standards (particularly Carlton's) he is lucky to have been allowed to see this contract out.

How can there be any doubt that Voss is coaching for his job next season?
