Find it hilarious they are doing nga and father son changes before interstate academy
I think it makes sense to clarify nga rules, then do the bidding process which effects all including northern academies.

I think the changes to NGA make sense. But it will be completely ridiculous if they give Port access to Cochrane. Goes against everything they're doing,

Would GWS trade 33 and their F1 for TDK compo, 45 and F3? Would get us the extra points we need for this year and next!

No point hiding Cody, everyone in the afl community knows how good this kid is. Just let him rip the u18s champs.

There is going to be a massive difference for us if he slides, even just a bit. We do not want a bid at 1. It would actually be devastating.
Making it past 5 would be a huge win for us.

He won't make it past 5 but even pick 2 is a monumental difference in terms of points required to match.

Pick 1 would be a disaster unfortunately.

There are ways, if he has the will
Our best hope would be some favourable trades to the teams that finish bottom 2-3.

Looking after a team like WCE a bit here and there in trades for picks or the Chesser deal etc may leave them not wanting to screw us on draft night.

I can't see anything happening with the Tigers, they hate us and we hate them. They'll almost certainly make a bid.

It would help if he doesn’t play much next year.
Or if there is a dramatic drop in form.
Being obnoxious in his club interviews wouldn’t hurt either.

Club's are very reluctant to pick a father son at pick one because the pick is still held in high prestige and if you get out bid you not only 'lose' the number one pick the bloke you pick at number 2 knows for sure you did not rate him number one. It's just overall a bad look.

From pick 2 onwards though it matters a lot less.

Honestly I don't think it would. Teams would know he's just deliberately tanking because they'd have seen plenty of him these last few years dominating at every level and being an ultra professional.

Plus you deny your guy the cash bonus they brought in to dissuade bidding at #1 - ironic now they're changing the rules.

Well he can be totally upfront and professional in his interviews with other clubs and inform them that he has absolutely no interest in playing/performing for them at all and that he would immediately seek a clearance at the completion of season one.
Those clubs would be well advised to concentrate their time and resources on other willing talent.
This of course probably wouldn’t be breaking news to any other clubs but would allow everyone to go about their business with a clear understanding of the realities at play.

And before we hear the cries of draft tampering, l think that most in football circles are well aware that this practice is pretty much accepted as commonplace and widespread these days …

Thats true, but if a club doesn't have the picks to match a pick 1 bid, then the player is live. So unlike in the past, the club bidding can actually get him. Completely different scenario then bidding just to "keep a club honest".

Also, bidding used to have little upside for the club placing the bid. Late picks would be used to match anyway, and you might lose some good will with the matching club.

Under the new system you can take valuable picks off the board by bidding, thereby elevating your own picks. Much more incentive. Though I expect those with their own prospects coming through to still steer clear for fear of payback.

So, no to Carlton strategically finishing last, but all for Cody strategically sabotaging the draft :D

Listening to Swan interview from yesterday it sounds like the needing to match with only 2 picks thing is definately in. Now we just gotta hope some kind of discount remains, or deficit allowance. Otherwise it'll be real tough.

Allowing a deficit somewhat contradicts the 2 pick limit so not hopeful on that one. Discount at least for lower clubs im more hopeful on.

Specifically mentioned, that clubs will need to trade players to match top bids. Dont think theres much sentiment for tradition there. Cough up or watch your player go elsewhere is my sense.

I think top priority this trade period now needs to be getting an F1 from a club certain to finish bottom 4-6. Richmond and Westcoast are the only 2 Id be absolutely certain on.

Can't leave it to next year. Could be impossible to do. Also, means Curnow trade needs to get done.
