I don't want Oliver as much as the next person but I wonder if Melbourne would want to get the entirety of his contract offer the books. We are probably one of only a few clubs that could do it without it hurting our budget to bring in a topline player. If we could buy their future first which is likely a top 5 pick it'd go a long way to getting a deal done for Butters.

I don't think Melbourne are under any salary cap stress. They're trying to fast track a rebuild before Tasmania arrives, so it wouldn't make a lot of sense for them to give away draft picks for someone to take him. I imagine they don't expect to get a lot in return even with them paying $700k per season, but are happy to have him off the books from a cultural point of view, and also prioritising the midfield to their younger brigade.

Let’s just bring JUH back into the fold, bring in Clarry and see if Smith and Stringer have any interest in coming back. Bring Hunter out of retirement. Go for broke.

He played key defender for the first time this season for GWS VFL

Very rock solid defender and could develop into a 1-1 winner

He’s turns up to work 50 percent more of the time than JUH…..

I’d take a punt on him for the right price. Fresh start, something to prove? Wouldn’t want to pay much for him though.

IIRC it's just free agency compo which is a pick after our first at best. Could be pick 18!

That's why i'd prefer him contracted. We could really squeeze them for a better trade.

2nd in the league for intercept possessions (according to wheeloratings) with 8.6 behind Ethan Phillips. Top 15 for contested marks with 1.8

I’ll back you up Danny boy. When you have dominate forwards such as Darcy and Naughton you don’t need a 3rd, too many running in the same direction. Premierships aren’t won with dominant tall forwards, haven’t been for years. Two tall forwards works best in my opinion and we need more quality smalls.

Exactly. And even if we run 3 talls we need quality small forwards to make it work. Like a Bobby Hill, Cameron, Lohmann, Stengle types.

Love Cody but he plays as a marking forward. West is great but he hasn't yet reached the level of those I mentioned earlier imo.

hehe...you know something is up with us when west coast are beating us for players! Go home factor or not!

He wants midfield minutes and game time. We need him for depth and he'd be a fringe player for us. Kind of a no brainer to go to WCE if he wants to play consistently...
