Oh yeah, missed that. That's pretty strange isn't? We've done that with other coaches. Putting them in charge of a position they have no experience playing in.
We did that with Webster who had never played in the backline. Webster had also never played in a successful team.
Mitch Duncan is a brilliant appointment.

Webster played a mix of backline and midfield, and played in at least one East Perth flag.

And your obsession with bringing him up as an example is getting a little weird

I think the issue with Shuey was more that he went straight from playing into coaching at the same club under the same coach and the same area he played in

It’s not uncommon for experienced players, like Duncan, to move straight into a line position but usually they move clubs. He’s had a 300+ game career at one of the best run/coached teams in the league who’ve had several past players do well as assistants- Kelly, Enright, Corey, Scott Selwood and Scarlett come to mind

Strikes me as someone who’ll be really knowledgeable and will come with good IP
That’s how Woosha got his experience from going from playing with WCE then to Carlton as an assistant coach of some kind then a few years later became our head coach - however at least he had got some experience with another Club, unlike Shuey.

I'd say it's not really a matter of working for a particular club but under different coaches. That's why many assistants move. WCE football department would almost be like a brand new club for Shuey in the 2 years he's been there.

Luke webster played half back most of his career especially his wafl career. Freo chucked him forward after his second knee recon

interview on a pod this year

talks about being mentored by James Kelly backline coach, talks about stability at geelong with leadership. I am pretty excited what he will add to the west coast group.

Watched the first half hour or so - hard not to be enthused by what he’ll bring to the club and our young playing group

Did he play backline in his 33 games at the Dockers ?

What I always liked about Mitch Duncan was his composure under pressure, he was always a particularly good user of the ball, but mainly because he was so good at just a little turn, baulk or check to give him time to dispose of it with a little more time than most. Hopefully he can pass this on to the boys coming out of the backline.

I saw Luke Shuey at the Royal Show today - he’s in a moon boot and on crutches again, he injured himself playing soccer of all things. I had a good chat to him, absolute legend of a bloke. My son was especially stoked to meet him. Shame Luke’s body failed him so often, he had more talent in one pinky than many of the current players on our list have in their entire body.

Done at indoor.

We have a group of 20 to fill five spots. The joys of getting old.

I was wondering why he was in a moon boot in one of his recent IG story selfies. My man will never stay uninjured, lol.
