I think he's gone with a slightly different approach. Let clubs dream of what he might be, rather than have them deal with the harsh reality of what he's actually become. Pretty cunning, I reckon. It's interesting Clayton is going overseas. I would have thought his priority would be to meet potential suitors in person and convince them he can get fit.
Even if this were true, if you're taking the next five years of your life seriously, you're delaying your holiday to sort out your footy future. Beyond banking the cash, he doesn't appear to greatly care what happens next with his career. It was already booked. I get the impression he has been blindsided.
The attitude is why Melbourne are trying to trade him out and willing to keep 700k of his salary on their books if it means he goes. If he was a model footballer, he wouldn't be getting traded out.Even if this were true, if you're taking the next five years of your career seriously, you're delaying your holiday to sort out your footy future. Of course. Just seems a little bizarre that he doesn't appear to care much at all about where he'll be raking in the oceans of cash over the next five years. Talk about phoning in your career. The attitude is why Melbourne are trying to trade him out and willing to keep 700k of his salary on their books if it means he goes. I don't get how he could be blind sided by this. He'd have to actually be blindIt was already booked. I get the impression he has been blindsided.
There's a possibility he could prove the doubters wrong and I'll be the first one in i was wrong thread about it.
Let’s not sugarcoat it - Oliver is shiteStill need all your mids to run back defensive, and also to run and present an option when needed to. If not enough are doing that, you get cut up by the sides that can both win the ball and move it at speed, as Brisbane showed on the weekend. You can't have a bloke who just wins the ball in congestion and is then just going to jog it out and watch the play unfold.
People get excited about Oliver because his name evokes images of what he was during Melbourne's time at the top, but he's far from that player anymore. His 2024 and 2025 were decidedly average.
I'm not even on it tbh. There's a possibility he could prove the doubters wrong and I'll be the first one in i was wrong thread about it.
That rules out Chris Scott wanting to coach him then.I don't get how he could be blind sided by this. He'd have to actually be blind
Elite reference! That rules out Chris Scott wanting to coach him then.
Needs to find a new prejudice that guy. It's costing us players.
Name three.I'm not even on it tbh.
I've just gone from "I'd rather die than see it happen" to "I'm not really on board, but there's worse ideas in the world"
1. Caleb Daniel in the ruckName three.

Not bad. I notice you listed them in ascending order of 'worstness' as well.1. Caleb Daniel in the ruck
2. Mason Cox taking kickins
3. Letting Bailey Smith use his phone during Mad Monday
1. Leaving Chris Scott in a locked room with a group of vision impaired people.Name three.

FIFY.True but also maybe hes planning to stay atMelbourneCasey and collect his money for a few years.
Bulldust. He has a 5 year contract. He hasn't been delisted. He doesnt have to crawl up to anyone.100 %. You cancel the holiday to meet with clubs and do medicals and you go after the trade period if you are serious.
AgreeBulldust. He has a 5 year contract. He hasn't been delisted. He doesnt have to crawl up to anyone.

Fun fact, you can do medicals overseas.
Agree
Also maybe he had already sorted his playing future and today’s meeting only made things easier for him to get to another club
He has tried to get out the last two years so l wouldn’t be at all surprised if he had not been speaking to clubs or club all yearI dont think hes sorted it-sounds like he only met king for the first time today and you wouldn't decide before meeting the coach.
Cooked in so many waysWe have spent hundreds of pages and multiple years in these draft threads mostly talking about one cooked player: Clayton Oliver. Kind of incredible.
