2025 AFL Draft and Trade Dates:

Fri Oct 3 - Fri Oct 10: 2025 Free Agency Period
Mon Oct 6 - Wed Oct 15: 2025 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period
Wed Nov 19 - Thu Nov 20: 2025 Telstra AFL Draft

It's interesting Clayton is going overseas. I would have thought his priority would be to meet potential suitors in person and convince them he can get fit.
I think he's gone with a slightly different approach. Let clubs dream of what he might be, rather than have them deal with the harsh reality of what he's actually become. Pretty cunning, I reckon.

It was already booked. I get the impression he has been blindsided.
Even if this were true, if you're taking the next five years of your life seriously, you're delaying your holiday to sort out your footy future. Beyond banking the cash, he doesn't appear to greatly care what happens next with his career.

The attitude is why Melbourne are trying to trade him out and willing to keep 700k of his salary on their books if it means he goes. If he was a model footballer, he wouldn't be getting traded out.

Of course. Just seems a little bizarre that he doesn't appear to care much at all about where he'll be raking in the oceans of cash over the next five years. Talk about phoning in your career.

Still need all your mids to run back defensive, and also to run and present an option when needed to. If not enough are doing that, you get cut up by the sides that can both win the ball and move it at speed, as Brisbane showed on the weekend. You can't have a bloke who just wins the ball in congestion and is then just going to jog it out and watch the play unfold.

People get excited about Oliver because his name evokes images of what he was during Melbourne's time at the top, but he's far from that player anymore. His 2024 and 2025 were decidedly average.
Let’s not sugarcoat it - Oliver is shite

True but also maybe hes planning to stay at Melbourne and collect his money for a few years.

100 %. You cancel the holiday to meet with clubs and do medicals and you go after the trade period if you are serious.

Cats need to find trade bait to land Marshall / Cernow / Worpel.
Did playing Clark in GF starting 18 raise his potential trade value ?

Bulldust. He has a 5 year contract. He hasn't been delisted. He doesnt have to crawl up to anyone.

Fun fact, you can do medicals overseas.

You can but when you have the questions around culture and work ethics he does you want to meet club leaders in person not zoom.
Yes he has a contract but like jamarra he needs to convince clubs and if he can't he will be stuck at Casey.
I just think if he was serious about turning over a new leaf he would cancel the holiday.
You could excuse if it was Geelong as he met Scott and all the leaders last year but any other club and his manager should be advising him to skip the holiday and meet in person.

Agree

Also maybe he had already sorted his playing future and today’s meeting only made things easier for him to get to another club

I dont think hes sorted it-sounds like he only met king for the first time today and you wouldn't decide before meeting the coach.

He has tried to get out the last two years so l wouldn’t be at all surprised if he had not been speaking to clubs or club all year

New coach may have pricked his ears but possibly not changed his attitude towards moving

We have spent hundreds of pages and multiple years in these draft threads mostly talking about one cooked player: Clayton Oliver. Kind of incredible.
