By multi year deal for Deven Robertson, that better mean 2 years, because there’s no way we’ve offered him 3+… is there?

Should only offer Brisbane a pick in 50s for guy that only averages 10 to 12 disposals a game and likely to retire early from concussions

Come on then enlighten us
Start here and also look into how they baseline performance outside of game day to compare their results.

It’s hardly “hey mate how’s the head” stuff.
The tests for concussion are interesting . You should Google SCAT5 SPORT CONCUSSION ASSESSMENT TOOL 5TH EDITION how they do it considering they can only really diagnose brain trauma physically until after you are dead

Do you know how they test for concussion?

They ask you a bunch of questions about how you are feeling

If I had 5 and 1/2 million on the line I would fake that shit to look fine
Where are we playing , who kicked the last scote , who did we play last week , name the 12 months backwards . Repeat this random list i say to you .
Heaps of testing done like this and days later , weeks later etc . Aside from dizziness , vomiting , headaches . Some you can fake but some you cant and its compared to earler cognitive results before a season starts

So next year we go in with something like, as it currently stands:

B: Hough Edwards Ginbey
HB: Baker Young Starcevich
C: Maric HReid McCarthy
HF: Cripps Shanahan Graham
FF: Brockman Waterman Owies
R: Flynn Yeo Hewett
Int: Duggan Allan Hall Robertson Kelly BWilliams

Draftees not included. Assuming all fit. Obviously some notable absentees.

We’ll win games.

Edit: We only have one Hewett.

He’s had one offseason and brought in our B+F and next captain (albeit with an overpay, yes) and also has delivered a draft most of us would say is a huge building block of our next core.

I’m not saying he’s a gun but do we need to reassess his tenure 300 times a day, every day of the year?

Give him a second offseason for a start.

His job is literally to balance and manage the list by bringing in players as cheaply as possible and selling players for the highest price possible.

Baker wanted to come regardless, it was Clarke’s job to pay as little as possible or even a fair price. Especially with his Richmond contacts.

I haven’t reassessed his ability since he publicly blurted out what he was prepared to pay for Baker but nothing since that moment has changed to make me think he’s even the 17th best list manager in the competition.

I will mercifully await Keys’ retrospective trade thread to discuss his failures, there will be more than enough prospective ones to discuss here.

Completely unnecessary tho given where he is at in his career. Can’t be so careless with giving out longer contracts.
He's a best 23 midfielder for atleast the next 2 years. Doubt that changes year 3 unless we have an incredible resurgence. Even then he's good for the WAFL. 3 is fine.

Is there any actual evidence to support this or is it just standard BigFooty dribble?
He was concussed mid-2024, pre-season 2025 and then in Round 1 2025.

Brisbane gave him 3 months off just to be cautious. He could have come back earlier but we decided to be conservative - at that point we had Noah Answerth playing his role anyway.

He was hit in the Grand Final but did not get concussed. He passed the HIA and was completely fine after the match.

His concussion history isn’t great, but it’s also nowhere near as bad as many in the media are making it out to be. It is a concern but it’s not anywhere near as bad as somebody like Paddy McCartin, for example.

Also - to the person who keeps quoting his disposal numbers… he’s the best mid-size lockdown defender in the competition. Look at Dangerfield’s numbers on the weekend and that will show you his impact.

Would love to know what we’re thinking with Starcevich, given that we have a very similar player in Hough already.

Midfield?
Hough to the midfield?
McCarthy to the midfield?
Baker to the forward line?

Why retain Tom Cole?
Its not good for Cole and Maric's future in the backline. And wtf do we do with Duggan. I mean I know what i would do with him but club loves Duggan.

Our backline looks pretty good next year except the key backs are inexperienced.

Ginbey - H Edwards - Hough
Starcevich/Baker - Young - Yeo/McCarthy

And rotate McCarthy, Yeo and Baker into the middle occasionally. Wont be able to fit them all in the backline though.

Might be a spot on the bench perhaps for one of Cole/Maric but not good signs for even that.

I’m 100% team Starcevich but his history is a concern. Maybe it’s a symptom of him putting his head in the trough meaning he’s a tough bugger we’d be lucky to have, but he has had some serious gaps in availability due to head knocks and some of them have been pretty light looking. Impossible to tell with concussions but anyone not concerned about his history is kidding themselves.

But it’s also that the people acting like he’s not a genuinely very good footballer are also kidding themselves, so it’s a risk the club have obviously deemed worth taking, and now we all hope for the best.

I tend to agree.

Impossible to tell with concussions but anyone not concerned about his history is kidding themselves.
I think it's important to be aware of the risk but the talk of him being 'one head knock from retirement' is just pure hyperbole.

As has been mentioned above, every player can be considered 'one knock from retirement'.

Pick 34 is fair for a guy with concussion issues and only averages around 10 disposals a gem
His opponent on the weekend (Dangerfield) had 10 disposals, zero clearances and zero impact.

Pick 34 is probably fair given the concussion history. But you shouldn’t be judging one of the best mid-size lockdown defenders in the competition on their disposal count. He’s an absolute gun of a player.

Pick 34 is probably fair, btw. But you shouldn’t be judging one of the best mid-size lockdown defenders in the competition on their disposal count.

100%

Post almost needs to be pinned to the top of the page

Brisbane playing the we don't lodge allen paperwork until you hand over your PP for starcivich

We just do the old hawks trick and trade away the pick you want
No problem Brisbane, you just earned yourself a nice early bid on Annable.

Haha, playing catch up and just read we're offering our handout pick for Starcevich.

Nobody is questioning his ability, just the history and ensuring that whatever compensation we send Brisbane's way is reasonable in light of the risk we'd be taking on.

For those referencing Dan Venables as an example of anyone being one head knock away from retirement - that collision was horrific. I was there at the game when it happened, right in front of me. That kind of thing doesn't happen regularly. We're worried about those innocuous incidents, the slight knocks that are far more profound as a result of the accumulation of other instances.
