Sure but if you’ve got access to advanced stats I would love to see i50 kick retention rates for both players, I imagine that would paint a different picture.

But beyond stats, here’s something that stands out to me like a sore thumb:

R13 Dees vs Pies, a few minutes to go, Melbourne is about to run over us and pinch the win, until Oliver going forward with low to no pressure executes one of the worst kicks you’ll see and send the ball OOB. We move the ball to their d50 and win the game.

Now you might say that’s just one example. Fast forward to the Dees vs Saints game the following month, there’s a few minutes to go and the Dees are about to win a close one, until yet again Oliver executes one of the worst kicks of the year at a crucial time and the rest is history.

Oliver is 100% a player you want to ask to handball first at all costs and dish it out to others for the kick. Problem is we already have one of those in Long so despite his strengths on the inside I’m not sure it’s who we want if the price isn’t heavily tilted in our favour in salary and pick.

Oliver is an upgrade on Long though.

Gonna have to trade someone out, and then also use a future pick? I dunno if we can use future picks though. Those rules I don't understand.

You can get special dispensation if the player you are trading for is young like Humphries.

Only thing is that GCS would want more than just one future first. I think our future first and Beau is the only thing that would get them interested. And I don’t want to lose Beau.

Animal House Drinking GIF
I'd go with Jamison's & ice.
It won't help with the bronchitis, but who cares? Good health is overrated anyway.

So you’re just going to ignore everything I wrote and believe they’ll have the audacity to ask for something decent for someone they’ve declared an overpaid fringe player? Ok m8 👍🏻
I addressed it. As I've said twice now the value of the deal is largely going to be about how much of his contract the Dees pay.

The higher portion of the contract they pay, the higher the pick will need to be. This is standard trade practise, I don't know what you're confused about.

Now you're talking! I use to swig it on the way to footy 20 years ago. Got pulled up 5min from my destination and blew just on .05, town was an hour away. She asked when my last drink was, I said 2 1/2 hours ago 🤭

Irelevent hahaha, far out.

Of course its relevent. If we had to trade with them, they want a star back, they needed an Elliott even when they have Humphreys. Pointless comment.
We won’t put a player we literally just signed up a day or so ago up for trade. If nothing else it’s a culture killer, won’t happen. You’re talking nonsense.

I’m not confused at all. I don’t understand how you can’t see how they just completely nuked their chances of getting anything significant for him, regardless of how much they pay of his salary.
This isn’t a case of paying more to get a better return, this is a case of paying more to even get clubs to be interested. Best they could possibly hope for is maybe a late second rounder at this point.

Just get Humphrey

We tried to get the pick in his draft year to get him
We tried to trade for him last year when we negotiating on Noble

Naicos
Humphrey
Draft mid25
FA26
Rowell27

The decent thing in return that they're after is Clarry out of the club. No club would want him at his full contract - it's a shit contract. If you subtract negotiation skills and leverage - they'll have to pay X amount of his contract to find someone who will take him for free. From whatever X is, they may be able to pay more of his contract to buy a draft pick - I wouldn't assume that'll happen though as it's clear that they just want him gone - however it might, as they're shedding a heap of salary cap space and might be into buying a draft pick.
Yes. I've only discussed Melbourne paying the maximum amount of his contract. To get to that maximum there'd be negotiation on what the receiving club gives. And I did say they'd want something "decent". For me that starts at a 2nd round pick.

If there is more than one club involved then the amount of the contract Melbourne has to pay or the draft pick they receive is what would be negotiated.

If Oliver's value has completely tanked maybe Melbourne will have to pay $700k and get almost nothing back, that's quite a collapse, but we'll see.

Last year Geelong were prepared to give a future 1st pick and pay $1M of his contract. Sure, this was while Melbourne were reluctant to deal.

His current contract is one that no one will take on. They have to pay a big chunk to start with to get a club to take him on for free in trade. If they pay more than that they could be in for a draft pick. It's irrelevant to the acquiring club how much the Dees are paying - what's relevant to them is how much they'd have to pay Clarry and how much they'd have to give up in trade - and yes the less they have to pay Clarry, the more they'll have to give up in trade. But what pick it'll cost is a complete guess - that comes down to whether the clubs are in a position where picks are more valuable to them than salary cap space or vice versa.

Go with dog...
(If this seems strange, I invariably substitute dog for god).
