2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

If Roma goes we're probably a tall short.

Wonder if it is SDK 🤔

I mean, we just bought in TDK and Silvagni...

TDK
Silvagni
Caminiti
Howard (assume he'll stay on for another year)
Aleer
King
Keeler
Dodson
Tauru
Barrat (speculative)

Honestly... I feel like our tall stocks will be BETTER next year than this year even with Ro leaving.

Have to assume the bones of a trade have been settled on if he has requested. Makes the ruck stocks look very threadbare. Will be an interesting one.
Keeler could play the ruck/fwd role for us.

His pre season has to be massive.

Not worried about the ruck TDK,Keeler & Dodson just add 1 rookie Ruck great opportunity for Keeler to really shine & grow with Dodson learning his craft in the 2s.

Plus caminiti was far from disgraced when rucking.
Him and keeler fighting it out for a fwd/ruck spot to support tdk is a good setup.
If tdk gets injured- they keep doing that, and dodson comes in and plays first ruck.

If we can turn Ro, Butler, an F2, an F3, and some salary cap into TDK, Flanders, JSOS, Ryan and Aleer, the we're freaking on. Draft a J Pou, a Taylor, or a Farrows with 7, match a bid for Fincher, and Bobs your uncle. I'm hoping for an off-season of:

Out:
Marshall (traded)
Butler (traded)
Cordy (delisted)
Jones (delisted, retained at VFL)
Webster (retired)
McClennan (delisted)
Shoenmaker (delisted)
Byrnes (delisted)
Boyd (delisted)

In
TDK (FA)
JSOS (FA)
Flanders (Ro picks and Butler)
Ryan (F2)
Aleer (F3)
J. Pou (P7)
Fincher (Matched bid)
Voss (Rookie)
Wanganeen (Rookie)

Him leaving really disturbs the list in my opinion. We go from having awesome ruck depth to terrible. Also gives a leg up to Geelong who I assume are a side we're trying to catch. I don't like it so we really better demand massive overs or walk away.
As long as actually make Geelong pay, we can find a back up ruck option.

It's putting a lot of faith in Dodson but it's probably a risk worth taking.

I understand Steele was a trade in but Marshall was a real born and Bred and Saint. Now you may argue that the identity and culture was bad during that period. Reardless, bringing in Blues Guys, WC, etc can disupt this, if our identity and culture is not atrong enough. I suppose the difference now is the emergance of Windy, Owens Naz etc.
Dare I say the culture has shifted from the Wilkie/Sinclair/Marshall/Steele types to the 2021 and beyond draftees culture.

I hope so, I think the question, do they have a strong enough culture/identity that is distinct and will withstand and grow with the new guys or will it conflict?

Flanders - I’d like to play more midfield.
Us - Fair enough, come to papa.

Marshall - I’d like to play more ruck.
Us - You stupid little child.

Marshall only had a average year , mainly due to injury but he still came 6th in our fairest and best - his marking around the ground will be missed if he goes - the amount of times he has got us out of problems through his marking will not be covered by any player in our squad.
Him leaving will make us weaker , if we want to win a flag we need to be keeping this guy. imo

and by the way , who knows if King will be around this - if he breaks down again we will be filling the void. Hammer / no - Keller maybe but not just yet

That is a significant upgrade for the '26 list on the '25 list. The fact Cordy and Jones have gotten so long out of this club says to me we've been playing catch up for a long, long time.

Also, I too am keen on Pou #2, but if Sharp, Greeves or Grlj are still available at our pick, would make the romance pick of Mini Pou a tough call...
