Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

How did that 'much more talent as a result going to the draft and much more talent than previously' go for you this year?

And how are they going to pay all this so called talent in a few years time?
Mass exodus coming up.

No one is saying TDK is not a good player, the point is he is not worth the money that makes him the second highest player in the league. His contract is the same as the reported contracts of Cripps and Curnow combined. Then the Saints lose Marshall because of it too. Its a strange move.
In some ways yes..

But they've replaced a ruckman with another ruckman and will add a first round pick to play with..
Also, I seem to remember talk of Marshall going to the Cats pretty early in the season. Maybe the Saints got on the front foot with this.

They suns are going sll
Out to try and win a flag. All
I see is Trac and JUH coming in whilst losing Flanders,Ainsworth, fiorini , budarik, Rosa’s Jr and maybe Humphrey.

Does not look all out to me. It looks worse IMO. Surley they are chasing Curnow. Surley.
Only way Bailey comes to us is if curnow goes to suns

If they're into Jamarra, I can't see that they'd also be into Charlie too.

What I'm writing here is I would put his peak at pick 7 in this draft, but probably have him sitting roughly at the TDK pick in a trade.

Gold Coast reached for him a little back in the day because his floor was higher than many in his range, and my evaluation of that hasn't changed. Now that was a weak draft...

I really like Humphrey but I aint paying two 1st's for him.

I can’t believe GC would take on JUH, it’s a party place the Goldy with plenty of the same unsavoury types in the shadows like here in Melbourne.
If clubs like Geelong and Sydney won’t go near him then that says it all

Its not the ones in the shadows that are the issue. Its whats right in front of you that is in most cases.

Yeah fair enough I guess. When it boils down to it, they may effectively buy a first round pick with cash. TDK is now on a lot more than he is worth, so they bought that pick (looks like pick 18 from Geelong) for the salary cost of a Curnow, McKay, Weitering level type player.

Humphrey sighting!
He popped into the local moe bakery today whilst my daughter was working there.
No scoop tho!
I told her she should’ve put the acid on him! She couldn’t give a stuff though as she’s a saints supporter and on cloud nine atm! lol

Oh ****!

St Kilda have got Humphrey as well. :(

I see some have laughed at your post, bluesDeluxe. But your point is an interesting one. There were media reports earlier in the year that while the size of the contract was obviously a big part of St Kilda’s push for TDK, the other thing they kept pushing was that their under 22s were better than our 22s. Rumours were that TDK was receptive to that argument.
Yes it looks like saints are following the hawks path.

The hawks strategy was to get in players who could help win games for the now, to attract better players when they became more successful.

Not many people thought the players hawks bought in before last year were any good either.

We're the Carlton Football Club.

Not a tiddly winks club reliant on players to bring in members

The monogram is enough to sell memberships.

The club is bigger than any player.
I've interpreted the Curnow value in relation to membership as something that might apply for GC rather than us... I don't think CC himself leaving would have any real impact on our membership numbers...

Don’t see the point you’re making? They jumped up anyway back to a prelim by being aggressive in the offseason

Saints are also getting 5 players not just 1 to improve their side next year
But losing 3-4 and disgruntling 12 more. It’s okay when you’re paying 1-2 massive overs. Watch what happens when JSOS misses half the season or Flanders doesn’t transition into the midfiel or TDK doesn’t do anything inside 50.

Anyone who thinks saints aren't doing a fantastic job this off season are kidding themselves.

They're doing a fantastic job spending overa on mid career players who haven't got the runs on the board to justify the massive contracts they're handing out.

They've done an amazing job of failing to communicate their plans to Rohan Marshall who believed TDK was there to replace him.

They've done a great job on showing their list what loyalty and regularly being a club's most consistent player gets you in the long run.

They're bringing in some great players. And they'll have a honeymoon period. However, they have no chance at a premiership and after this year they'll have spent their fortune and will lack ability to really build on the quality of their list.

They will make finals. If that's their long term aim, which I've been told before it is because they need that to sell continued hope to their members, then good on them for potentially delivering a product that can do that. However, personally 1966 feels as far away from their scope as it ever has.
