Hope we do, would be good to retain Roma for another year or two while Dodson develops.

Not sure it’d be quite as funny as watching your cartoonish rucks bumbling their through another GF humiliation though, that was some quality comedy that was!!It would actually be pretty funny if you guys turned down a reasonable trade just to see him clog up your forward line and then end up in the 2s. Genuine lols

The other aspect is that if he goes to Geelong, you will be strengthening a team you will be competing against for a top 4/ top 8 spot.will be traded if it suits us apparently so let's see what suits us.
It would be for St.Kilda and I will tell you why.Wow, that would be terrible.
The problem is Geelong never pay a fair price and they're used to it now.It would be for St.Kilda and I will tell you why.
If Geelong is trying to swindle a low-ball deal, and refuse to stump up something objectively reasonable commensurate to RoMa's value, then Geelong has let him down. He'll be disappointed with Geelong and I'm sure he'll happily front up at Moorabbin in 2026.
On the flip side, if SOS is being unreasonable to the point where one could reasonably deduce that the demands are tantamount to sabotage, then yes, it's simply inevitable that Marshall has to stay as the Cats will walk.
SOS and Ross can be all cute and think that playing hardball to the point of sabotage will work, but in the end, you'll have a bloke who's extremely disgruntled because he'll know that the negotiations didn't take place in good faith.
Be honest, do you think he will be happy under these circumstances? Will you really be the winners here if he's disgruntled? You'll have pissed the bloke off massively because the whole thing would have been performative. I don't know about you, but it seems like a hollow victory to me.
There's nuance here, and from the Saints' perspective, retaining RoMa will only work under certain circumstances. If no deal is to be reached, I'd hazard a guess that his attitude will be vary widely depending on how the negotiations go down.
If the Saints' strategy ensure RoMa's retention is contingent upon being completely unreasonable at the trade table to the point where Geelong cannot in good conscience meet the demands, then this is a sure-fire way to get his nose out of joint.
If this is how you wish for it to play out, then good luck to your mob.
Your opinion has nothing to do with my point. Saints can play hard ball all they like, my argument is that the outcome will not be a win in the true sense if the player retained is mightily peeved about the methods used to thwart a deal. The problem is Geelong never pay a fair price and they're used to it now.
Clubs need to stand up to this.

It will be a win for Stkilda if they keep him because you can't offer a reasonable deal because they will be competing with you next year and whichever side has Marshall will be a better side .Your opinion has nothing to do with my point. It's obvious that you're very biased and just want the Saints to play hard ball to screw over Geelong. You're no friend of St.Kilda, you're merely advocating for them to be a pawn in a proxy war against Geelong. Thankfully you have no actual control over the real-life dealings.
he looks disgruntled.......It would be for St.Kilda and I will tell you why.

Hey, you'll get no argument from me regarding the first paragraph. Signing a contract and then wanting out before it elapses makes it bloody hard for the club you've nominated to facilitate a trade.Disgruntled? He's 29, if he wanted to be a free agent he should have signed a shorter contract. The contract for 2026 and 2027 was offered, negotiated and signed in good faith.
Disgruntled? I reckon we'll take our chances on a guy with a permanent smile on his face.
Maybe there's a deal to be made, pick 20 something is not that deal.
Why has he asked for a trade with two years to run on his contract if he's so happy?
He's a contracted St.Kikda player. You don't have a right to trade him in just because he nominated you.Hey, you'll get no argument from me regarding the first paragraph. What you think he's worth and what I think he's worth is immaterial to the point, even if our opposing views somewhat align with where our clubs' starting position may be in any prospective negotiations.
All I'm saying is that there's a bloke who now wants out, hence to only negotiate with the club he's nominated in bad faith - with no intention get a deal across - won't end well.
Hell, some deranged and irrational BigFooty posters are baying for St.Kilda to weaponise the negotiation process by using it as a cudgel to enact some kind of punitive measure against Geelong.

This.Looks same as Tim Kelly to be honest. You managed to hold Kelly to his contract after first trade request even. No reason why Saints can't do the same, might be better for them considering they are trying to add to their list than hand over key players to others.
Kelly came back with good attitude and played one more season with Geelong. Marshall can do the same.

find it funny people arguing what picks get thrown in for marshall, regardless of if is this year or next year or year 2033, saints won't see it as it will be used up or split for their 29 trades they got going on.
what they need to realize is just the net which is
out: marshall
in: flanders, ryan, whoever else.

Good faith?Rowan asked for a trade to Geelong in 2024, this is the second time it’s happening.
If Saints keep blocking it they aren’t negotiating in good faith it’s not going to go well for them.
You have to consider player agents and agencies in these things.
They will intentionally steer players away from certain clubs.
Go ask Freo fans how they feel about Colin Young and how he treats their club.
It’s not that deep broHey, you'll get no argument from me regarding the first paragraph. Signing a contract and then wanting out before it elapses makes it bloody hard for the club you've nominated to facilitate a trade.

And that's exactly why the saints want the future first it worst it is pick 18, 1 worse. At best it's pick 1.If by F1 you mean Future 1st, Geelong seem to have adopted a position of being reluctant to trade F1s.
The idea is that this year's pick is at least a known quantity - it's Pick 17. So we know exactly what we'd be paying.
The risk with trading a F1 is that next season you could suffer a spate of injuries or poor form, or some other type of bad luck, and crash down the ladder. So what you thought might be Pick 15-20 ends up being Pick 8 or something.
We seem to be happier to add an extra to this year's first just for the certainty of it, than take the risk with a F1.
