Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

Rowan asked for a trade to Geelong in 2024, this is the second time it’s happening.
If Saints keep blocking it they aren’t negotiating in good faith it’s not going to go well for them.

You have to consider player agents and agencies in these things.
They will intentionally steer players away from certain clubs.

Go ask Freo fans how they feel about Colin Young and how he treats their club.

Not seeing anywhere he asked last time. Only a speculation link.

If he really did ask last year and it didn't happen - it's even more evidence that Marshall will come back and play with good attitude in 2026, if they block the trade this time. I feel this is the first time he's officially asked for a trade.

I believe last year was more journalist musings about Marshall and Geelong if anything as Geelong were busy negotiating for Bailey Smith and even Clayton Oliver.

We just received band 1 (pick 9) for TDK - Thankyou SOS :).

19 for JSOS is amazing (!) for a solid backman who plays 1/2 a season on average.

The club was happy to take the compensation & run given we have 2 top-10 fathers sons this/next year.

Curnow leaves only if we let him leave - 4 years to run on his contract. If he does it will be our our terms & to our benefit.

Be honest - Marshall leaving must make the TDK acquisition seem a little daft?
Walker will follow in his father’s footsteps.

Tremendous respect to Marshall and the Saints , hell of an organisation. Looking forward to him being in the hoops next year and adding to our ruck stocks. Brutal sport sometimes but obviously success talks and he isn’t getting younger. I’m sure he’d love to add a flag. Let’s hope a deal gets done in a straightforward manner .

Yeah I love how we keep getting told by oppo fans every year that “this is the last chance at it”

Majority of our side played their first or second Finals series this year, 10 blokes played their first Grand Final.
The core majority of the best 23 is in the 23-27 age range, not the 30+
Most of the blokes who played key roles in 2022 GF have either retired or are not the focal point of the side anymore.
Much more reliance on younger blokes, our best players in the 2025 Grand Final were ages 20, 21, 22 and 23
How did getting spanked by the Lions go for Swans this year? Do you think the mental scarring of losing a grand final that way won't affect the younger players who didn't play very well in the GF. Actually only Holmes and the tall blonde foward played well that day.

It would be for St.Kilda and I will tell you why.

If Geelong is trying to swindle a low-ball deal, and refuse to stump up something objectively reasonable commensurate to RoMa's value, then Geelong has let him down. He'll be disappointed with Geelong and I'm sure he'll happily front up at Moorabbin in 2026.

On the flip side, if SOS is being unreasonable to the point where one could reasonably deduce that the demands are tantamount to sabotage, then yes, it's simply inevitable that Marshall has to stay as the Cats will walk.

SOS and Ross can be all cute and think that playing hardball to the point of sabotage will work, but in the end, you'll have a bloke who's extremely disgruntled because he'll know that the negotiations didn't take place in good faith.

Be honest, do you think he will be happy under these circumstances? Will you really be the winners here if he's disgruntled? You'll have pissed the bloke off massively because the whole thing would have been performative. I don't know about you, but it seems like a hollow victory to me.

There's nuance here, and from the Saints' perspective, retaining RoMa will only work under certain circumstances. If no deal is to be reached, I'd hazard a guess that his attitude will be vary widely depending on how the negotiations go down.

If the Saints' strategy ensure RoMa's retention is contingent upon being completely unreasonable at the trade table to the point where Geelong cannot in good conscience meet the demands, then this is a sure-fire way to get his nose out of joint.

If this is how you wish for it to play out, then good luck to your mob.
How did ot work our for Tim Kelly and Geelong?

Stop being so sensible, he will play in the VFL if he doesn't go to the Cats.
He is still comfortably in the Saints best team. But as I said earlier he would be desperate for success , that’s the brutal reality of our sport

Sydney missed finals this year because they had too many injuries and a new coach and Gulden was gone half the year not because of a grand final. So I'm not really sure what your point is.

Doesn't sound like we should be giving up our F1 then....

Good faith?

Faith is the contract.

The only faith st kilda need to achieve is what they think is commensurate value to walk away from the contract.

As for cherry picked examples. Lachie Neale worked out okay for Brisbane.
Come on mate if you really valued Marshall why go and chase TDK when they both want to be the number 1 ruck?, you can't stand your ground here when you guys have made it clear you don't see him as the answer. Do you plan on playing him forward? He clearly doesn't want that.

Also the idea of players being steered away from St Kilda given how this off season is unfolding is ridiculous.

No it is not, we have multiple examples of this happening.

Head in the sand to think player agents don’t have huge sway in where players are playing.
Saints overpaying role players doesn’t change the fact that superstar players and their agents have a huge amount of sway in what happens at club level.

This false bravado is hilarious.
Players don’t publicly ask for a trade unless they know there’s a good chance its already being discussed and worked on.

Why has he asked for a trade with two years to run on his contract if he's so happy?

He's been sold that he's the missing piece for the AFL's best home and away team to go one step further.

Now the Cats need to sell a story to the owner of his contract, using a different narrative.

Go ask Freo fans how they feel about Colin Young and how he treats their club.

The feelings of player agents who have previously advised their client to sign a long term contract past this year (+ 2) 'in good faith' are way down the list of considerations here.

No matter how vengeful you may think they become.

The idea of TDK joining doesn't necessarily impact our thoughts on Roma.

In the same way you recruiting Barrass and Battle didn't mean you don't rate scicily

What would a Bulldog supporter know about trades,? No trades of your own to think about? What's happening on that front? 😉
Not much at the moment.

Just think the standard posturing that Saints will want a first won’t come close to being realised considering he is being forced out.

Keep telling yourself that. One player doesn't make that much of a difference. And also Gameplan wouldn't have differed much from horse to cox's.

Yes, player agents and agencies appear to be giving us a wide berth this off season :drunk::drunk::drunk:

ROWAN MARSHALL TO GEELONG

Instead of teaming up with Tom De Koning as part of St Kilda’s aggressive recruiting drive, Marshall is seeking a move to the Cats to become their No. 1 ruck.

What gets deal done

-St Kilda receives Pick 18, Pick 58

-Geelong receives Rowan Marshall, Pick 63

One of two glaring weaknesses in the Cats line up is in the ruck, Marshall will go a long way in fixing that. With James Worpel coming to the Cats who is a good hard at the ball midfielder and the return of Tanner Bruhn, Geelong may fix both problems and should get away with having a lean hand at this year's draft?

That pick upgrade from 63 to 58 really does tie that deal together nicely haha
