Recommitted Buku Khamis [FA 2026] - requested a trade to Carlton, didn't get there

He played 14 senior games this season.

He may not be in the best 22 but clearly he’s not as far off as you are suggesting.
Wasn't there some rumour that the Doggies refused to pick him for the final rounds because they didn't want to automatically trigger an extension for him?

Sounds like they don't see him in their best 22 if they were actively trying to avoid giving him an extra season.

Not at all,

We were getting killed in transition and was replaced by Croft and Poulter who were better runners but still tall for pressure as Naughton and Darcy are clear 1 and 2

It will be a 'goodwill' trade where we get the guy to where he wants to go. We may try for a second with our third going back, or an upgrade to our second round pick with a token pick to balance the trade.

This draft isn't deep and many clubs will just use their 3rd or 4th picks to upgrade a rookie.

BF pissing contents rarely translate into the real world.

I feel like one underrated aspect of trades is positioning yourself as a club that will help their own players.

Not trading a fringe 22 player who has a long term contract in front of him because you wanted a F2 instead of a F3 would be grim.

Yes he’s contracted, but I’d be annoyed if we didn’t let him secure a long-term contract because of a 7-15 pick difference.

It should be a smooth trade for all involved.

Aren't you the guy who was saying Sam Berry was worth 800k?

He is contracted played 14 games this year 17 last year so isn't nowhere near the best 22 like suggested,

Carlton are offering him a 4 year contract asking for Brisbane's 2nd round pick which after FA compos alone is pick 44-45 isn't too much to ask for again a contracted player who they are offering a long term deal for
Eagles are a bunch of complete plebs though so not sure thats the baseline. Id pay Berry 800k cos of our plebness

I think you guys just wont stand in his way for a measly 100 draft points and nor should you. He is very far down the depth chart nowadays

Not sure if Carlton have been rumoured to be trying to trade 21 back for more points. If not, wonder if the Blues would consider Buku & 32 for 21, given they have to match for Dean?

That values Buku at slightly more than pick 49 (which Carlton have), so may make no points difference for the Blues than trading 49 and would be more favourable than potentially giving up pick 40 alone, which seems thereabouts.

Yeah, no.

I think it's likely we hold onto that pick for matching purposes. Dean sounds like he's a lock for a top ten bid and Ison is getting first round hype.

Dogs will probably ask for more than that given he’s contracted, look at the Caleb Daniel trade last year for reference (pick 25)

What I proposed literally values Buku at pick 49
Points value is very different to a picks actual value.

Pick 10 is only worth pick 23 + 24 but its rare you'd see a deal like that happen given the complexities of the draft and where the brackets of talent fall in each pool.

We should be able to get a deal done for Buku for a late pick and thus we'd have no interest in giving up the more premium commodity in pick 21 to secure him.

He is contracted and you are offering a 4 year deal you won't get him for a late pick no matter how many times you say it

He's a VFL depth player at the Dogs. Our offer makes no difference in that matter.
Again you can keep sprouting this lie all you like he has played 31 games over the last 2 years,

He isn't a "VFL" depth player he is in the 20-25 player range which gets him a game more often then not but pending team balance may not play

Matt Kennedy went for what pick?
Pick 38

Was also told he’d get more opportunities elsewhere. This trade request is player driven, not club driven.

I think with that said if Carlton offered a pick in the mid 30s we’d probably accept it.

Whats the relevance?

So because we traded Port Jordon Sweet for a late pick they should give us Butters cheaper?
Because Kennedy was in basically the exact same position as Buku. Clearly an AFL quality player stuck on a list that had an overabundance of similar players to him.

He was told he won't be guaranteed a spot in the 1s and the club was open to letting him explore his options in good faith to a great club man.

Kennedy was a far better player than Buku when he was traded and went for a pick that ended up in the 40s.

Which is where your 2nd rounder will end up so again whats your point?

You will have little to no KPP depth if Curnow leaves

Have there been any rumoured trades for Carlton to split pick 10?

The Blues might end up with a few picks in the 20s and 30s that can cover both. Hence suggesting they may entertain shifting 21 back to 32 for Khamis and retaining a third round pick that will move in after bids are matched (acknowledging Carlton may prefer to also split 21 for later picks and more points).

We are apparently looking to trade up to 2 with WCE.

I think it's a valid suggestion, I just don't think it's a likely outcome for this trade.

There have been rumours about us trading up the order from 10, haven't heard anything about splitting it.
