I look at it more around if the wins/close losses were because we "matched/beat" the opposition, or if we just brough them down to our level. Kinda like the 2000 Bombers losing only 1 game for the season, by 1 point, to the Dogs. Sure, the Dogs beat them - but the how has never been lost on me. They put 18 players behind the ball. Terry did a similar thing against the Crows back in the day, where he effectively made the team refuse to kick the ball forward unless there was a uncontested mark. We got the win, but my god it was ugly. The strategy works because the other team is not normally expecting to have to deal with the game being made that shitty. And it is hard to argue that all of the games that we apparently did "well" in, were games that were bloody hard to watch. I just don't see how that style of footy makes for sustainable, worthwhile growth. It was like watching Scotland play Brazil in Soccer. You got 1 team trying to play "the beautiful game" while the other is trying to turn it into a little league game. Its a strategy for a single game, not longterm success.

So what you are saying is that Yze had a fabulous year of coaching to get us that many wins with the team he had on the park? Because at the end of the day it's all about wins.

It was implied that we will be looking to add later picks to help with matching for Kellaway. Not sure we're getting picks for Young, but given it's Clarke on the other end who knows.
