Traded Brandon Starcevich - traded to West Coast as part of a 3-way trade with Brisbane and Fremantle

Same can be said of Brissy and Allen then

And the only way they get him for free is Band 1 compo. All the rest is bluster

Nah, not the same at all…no-one in Brisbane is expressing doubt or regret about pursuing Allen…we’re happy to have them both if WC remove their inflated salary offer to Starcevich

Reckon you could find quite a few examples in this thread to dispel your first point

But my point was more that Brissy is committed to him Which means the only way they get him without having to trade is by offering up Band 1 compo. Be utter madness for them to not do that, sabotages their whole draft

I think Starcevich is a tremendous defender but I also think WC would be mad to go through with this trade. Reminds me of the Tim English situation where I am pretty sure WC balked at big dollars etc because of concussion risk. Medical retirements are likely to become only more prevalent in coming years.

Depends if Bris do the right thing and lodge Allen separate to a Starcevich trade like they should. Given they won’t lower their offer as that jeopardises a move for Allen, and increases our likelihood of matching and trading, they should really be lodging it now and handling Starcevich separately. As Matt Clarke said, eagles view the two as separate transactions, which really they are.

In a world where we only receive band 2 for Allen, we either lodge Starc as an FA if it’s before the deadline as it should be, or if it’s not and this occurs next week, we likely lower our offer for Starcevich to Hawks R2, given we’d require more picks to trade up as our intention has always been 3 top 10 picks. In that world we probably gun for both Carlton and GC early picks using our future capital received for Ryan with Carlton.

I believe our offer would be around the ballpark of Silvagni offer. Looks like ~850k is likely to trigger band 2.

They may be contemplating making it band1 for the right incentive though. That's just my guess.

afaik I’ve read 900 x 5, and Allen is closer to the optimal age 25 that recruits the highest point value for their compensation formula. I don’t know if it sits inside band 1, but I’m pretty convinced by my tin foil hat that we’ll be magic-ed up pick 2 regardless.

Silvagni is two years older than Allen. For identical contracts it is possible for one to band 1 and the other band 2. It's secret squirrel bullshit.

The right incentive is not having to trade for him

All this back and forth, when in the end it'll almost certainly be Allen = pick 2 Brandon = assistance pick and everyone's happy. win/win. Pick 16 is likely just out there to mollify the WC fans who were furious about trading the assistance pick.

I really don’t understand that thought process. No one would’ve been mad at the assistance pick being traded. The only reason anyone is up in arms is just pissy with Brisbane for mucking everyone about for days

Lions lose Starcevich as a FA, no compensation.
Eagles gain Starcevich as a FA, compo goes from 2 to 20 or worse.

Lions are getting Annable for a steal after the Ashcroft guns and 2 free agents.

If ever there was a time to use the PSD for the good of the competition it would be now.
Briztoon this you?

How about we just make the deal here on this thread.

Lions give up Starc, offer OA enough for pick 2 and WCE give up pick 16.

Otherwise we just take OA on reduced coin to generate end of first round.

It’s really that simple. Weagles desperate for Starc.
Who’s your supplier

Otherwise we just offer OA reduced coin to generate end of first round, eagles match, keep OA, pick 16, take Starce FA, bid on Annable at 1. Lions lose Starce for nothing and both their first rounders on Annable.
Either of these sound okay to me, I think Bris would far prefer the former though.

OA + Starce + 16 for 2 isn’t great but not the worse trade.

The preaching about win/win trades on this thread by Brisbane posters is laughable now thanks to posts like these. If Brisbane do that, WC wouldn’t bother with a trade for Starce and simply take him via FA. Add a bid on Annable at 1 to top it off. Both clubs lose. What for? So Brisbane can a few hundred points more by moving from 22 or 23 to 16.

More in their interest to offer band 1, take the later pick for Starcevich and a promise of no bids on Annable to 3.
