Why not just take Duursma?

If the Bummers are willing to trade 2 first rounders for pick 1 in order to get him, that speaks to the level of talent.

He's 193cm tall, versatile, consistently ranked number 1 this year and has a bit of Bont about him.

It's a no brainer to take him, they can have CDT though.

Duursma 1.0 bombers
Duursma 2.0 soon to be bombers
Duursma 3.0 2028 bombers.

There are plenty of players now that are 190 - 195cm midfielders. In general people have been getting taller for quite a few generations now.
I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that CDT may have the ability to play as a midfielder, similar to how Luke Jackson plays there occasionally.
CDT has speed and good aerobic capacity.
I’m not convinced we’ll take him, but it will be very interesting to see how his career develops.
But would you take Duursma and CDT in the same draft. From what everyone is saying, they are similar players.

I live in Broome, so I get down to the footy in the big smoke maybe 3 times a year, so I only ever get to see televised games, and I certainly don’t watch them all. From the vision that I’ve seen, I’d be rating Sharp as my 1st pick. He’s proved himself consistently over a long period of time.
Duursma worries me as he has always been a very strong runner, given his mum has taken him running with his other siblings up hills since he was knee high to a grass hopper, in my view when other draftees enter an afl training environment they will catch up to him and that will negate one of the strengths he has.
CDT has huge upside, wasn’t only focused on footy coming through, so may well have a fair bit of improvement to come, and may well grow in height, worth the risk in my opinion.
If Essendon wanted to trade their picks 5 and 6 for pick 1 to draft Duursma and we had mail that Sharp would get through to 5, I’d take that option.
WC recruiters will no doubt have a different take than me, but that’s my 2 cents worth.

I think the Eagles will call out Duursma at 1 and Sharp at 2. If they can get hold of GC's 7, they might have options of CDT, Cumming, Taylor, Schubert.

No one will trade up for CDT is the point… we need A grade talent but we need talent generally speaking as well. People overestimate the stage we’re at in our rebuild. We’re still in the accumulating talent phase
It's a pretty big indictment if teams aren't lining up to draft CDT but he's seemingly the default pick 2.

Would Richmond take CDT (or trade back) is the question.

Everything seems to point to Grlj being one of their picks, the other is intriguing.

That may dictate our desire to split #1 or not.

I was strong on pairing Sharp and Cumming to bolster our midfield. Still am which is why I’d take 2 and 13 for 5 and 6

13 is a great pick. I expect a slider there or a non mid option. Dovaston, Phillipou, etc. with the way Banfield developed in his last 6 weeks, he is looking far more balanced that I gave him credit for early season. Also Evans with his burst (and toughness) give us a great range in the midfield to add to Harley, Gross, Hewett, etc.

The Pieman left us with Old Mother Hubbard’s bare cupboard. It could now be rectified.

A good job from Clarke today. We came out with a starting best 22 defender and upgraded our hopefully 3rd pick. We now need to hope the AFL and Lions deliver us pick 2.

Assuming band 1, we take to the draft

1 2 13 34 38 53 58
I assume either 38 or 53 are used for Young. I can see that deal being done pretty easily. I'd like it to be 53 plus 58 for the Kellaway match but the KPD market is short at the moment so it may be 38.

The big question will be how to extract value out of the Ryan and Chesser moves. Well the good news is that timing this year in on our side, as is the whip hand. Ryan contracted and Chesser comes back in the PSD.

Ryan feels like a R2 pick - I am ok with a F2. Saints current hand is 7, 49, 64 with 7 going for Flanders. A F1 for Marshall is tipped. I would be OK with Ryan (fully paid for 2026 salary) and pick 34 this year for the Cats F1. Without the salary, it values Ryan at pick 25. Salary included means Ryan alone is valued at say 30. Again, this is Saints trying to land an in contract player we want to keep. Pick 34 would help them land Aleer.

Armed with the Cats F1, go to the Blues and offer up the Cats F1 and Chesser for 22 (the SOS compo pick) and a F2. This effectively sees Chesser as a pick 2, again a fair price.

Take to the draft 1, 2, 13, 22, 38 53 58

We get
1 = Duursma
2 = Sharp
13 = Dovaston or Phillipou or name who you want at 13
22 = Curtin or Thredgold as a KPD or Barker as an outside mid
Keep 38 for Williams or Banfield bid matching plus get Evans and Walley as Cat B

We then have Blues F2 along with a full future hand

Is Evan's likely to get through to the rookie draft?

It is really hard to predict these things. I would say yes. I think we get a bid on Williams. Possibly a bid on Banfield. Evans has a high ceiling but was injured a lot of the year and clubs will be reluctant.

If we’ve got multiple picks in the top 10, I’ve got no troubles using one on CDT. The boy can seriously move.. He will be an interesting one to watch wherever he ends up. Because I think with the right drive and development I think his ceiling is best in draft worthy. I genuinely think he ends up more like Blicavs than Jackson, though.

I’d be inclined if we were sold on him moving forward (and we held 1&2) to pair him with Sharp though, who I see as being the most sure thing in the draft.

I’d be more worried about Duursma going home at his first opportunity, so if the call comes from Essendon for 4&5 and change I would take it. Reckon all the Duursma brothers end up at the bombers in time.

I think 4 is my magic number where I'd be happy to have CDT. If we somehow had 4 top 10 picks I'd be fine with CDT being one of the 4.

Surely we won't get as much for pick 2 compared to pick 1. 3 years ago we only got 8 & 12.
Sure, but I want Duursma.

I think Sharp will slide, so splitting 2 is a good option.

Is Williams even worth matching if a bid comes as early as it's been reported?

Take out his combine performance and he's back to being a late ND selection. Seems a fair price for someone not actually rated that highly.

We're just paying combine tax.
