I note that Pickers is a manager for Joel Corey and Jade Rawlings I wonder where the leak came from🙄

It just feels worse and worse the more you look at it.

I understand Wallsy and Co walk into trade period with a list of our objectives and what we want accomplished but surely, underlying all of that is a basic understanding to maximise every opportunity presented? Or else what are we doing in this league?

I agree with the sentiment that our later picks have almost no value, we shouldn’t piss them up a wall but maybe not worthy of a melt, but to say 33 has no value is utterly insane.

When Warner requests a trade and Sydney say no thanks to future f1s as Tassie has arrived in the league, bet we wish we would have some extra currency to assist then, if only we maybe at least attempted to push some of this pissed up value into next year?

It was agreed on day 2 so absolutely no is the answer to the next person who raises we may have tried to. Beggars belief the mismanagement of assets no matter how small you think they are.

Haven't had this much fun playing the opposing side in a thread for a while.

The other side just wilfully ignoring all the data so they can maintain the rage and cry that we screwed up. I get it, it's fun to be upset sometimes also.

The trade is only diabolical under the assumption that the existing pick value system is accurate. The collective intelligence of the AFL list managers, the draft watchers as well, all are saying that the draft is likely to be below average. Since the draft value index is built upon an average draft, the value of each pick in this upcoming draft has been determined to be less than normal.

We can do some simple mathematics.

Post Allen Compo, difference is as follows:

Now let's assume that the list managers secretely agreed that this draft had five top end talents less than usual, top ten picks for example. That would result in the following calculation:

Suddenly, the before and after are much closer in value.

The specifics of the assumptions made don't matter. All that matters is there is clearly an understanding between list managers that the value of picks in this draft is lower than the pick value index.

Value is determined by the parties making a trade - not by an outside system. As stated yesterday, it will be interesting to see how other trades are valued in the coming days to get more data on this.

What we can say though, is if pick 23 does have less value than a normal pick 23, we have gotten a fantastic deal for Judd McVee.
You got a bit hammered with the reactions and general consensus on here but this is a good point.

Draft picks aren’t as simply priced with points like the points system which purely exists to allow the bidding system to exist - they’re a commodity based on the strength of a draft pool. It’s been reported how compromised this specific draft is due to academy dilution, and the actual talent shown in this pool has been very underwhelming from scouting notes in the draft threads. If anyone watched the futures game vs the state games you’d see the talent difference.

Stocks are down this year, picks aren’t as valuable as they have been previously. We just saw pick 7 handed over for Sam Flanders ffs, and Melbourne fans are LIVID they only got 23 for McVee.

I would’ve liked us to explore a potential investment into next year’s draft though with Robinson coming on, we might regret not fishing for points earlier.

Surely we now package pick 68 and Brodie for a top 50 pick from Port (their pick 48)?

In which case no real damage done? I mean let's remember we got a first round pick salary dump to take Brodie in the first place?

So we are essentially playing with house money...

Stocks are down for Freo but up for Brisbane and WC?

Think the Brodie trade is similar to the Reidy one or simply a single fourth round pick.

If anything his contract devalues him significantly as the benefit for us is getting him off our list without paying out his contract.

So Geelong are offering picks 18, 37 and some dude called George Stevens for Charlie Bloody Curnow!!!

And yet there’s bros on here trying to convince us every pick after approx pick 12 on this draft is worthless…

Make it make sense?
If Curnow gets to Geelong I will make Vesuvius look mild

Port apparently hate this draft with a passion. I can see them parting with pick 48 without too much fuss...chuck em 68 for some nga matching and we walk out of there without too much damage done, and mcvee rebounding off our flank...

So Brierty says we have two live picks in the draft. If we are taking a single player as a pick and then Whan we are looking at nothing being worth anything except the first pick and even then - if you've got your mind set on a player, you only need that to be his value.

Future picks from Port.
