2025 AFL Draft and Trade Dates:

Fri Oct 3 - Fri Oct 10: 2025 Free Agency Period
Mon Oct 6 - Wed Oct 15: 2025 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period
Wed Nov 19 - Thu Nov 20: 2025 Telstra AFL Draft

If we trade our R1 this year …will we be able to trade out our R1 next year. 2 in 4 would suggest no.
I’m confused by this as well.

2021 - none (Jezza)
2022 - Clarke
2023 - O’Sullivan
2024 - none (Smith)
2025 - none (Marshall?)
2026 - ?
2026 - ?

Note : in 2022 we traded out R1 for Bruin, but got back pick 7 in the Bowes salary dump. Also, lucky in 2022 we didn’t use our future first for OHenry, as we have ended up getting O’Sullivan the next year.

Warhorse is a branch of the St Kilda PR team. There's nothing wrong with that but it acts as a useful context for their posts around what club is doing.

Surely if Curnow really had a desire to get to Geelong he'd be long odds to want to live in Sydney.
The reason I think the media are leaning towards Curnow to Sydney is twofold right now.

Firstly, neither Geelong or Carlton saying too much on the Curnow matter publicly, so the media do what the media does and just start making assumptions. Just because a deal on Curnow to Geelong is not imminent, they swing the narrative to the fact he must be going to Sydney.

Secondly, the media are also running with the Sydney narrative as they assume that Geelong either (a) don't have the draft capital, or (b) will refuse to send a best 22 player to Carlton.

On the last point, there's some talk that the Saints was our future first and not this years first. That might put this years first on the table as part of the Curnow deal. I see someone posted an offer from Geelong of this years pick 18 + pick 38 + George Stevens and then Curnow and later picks back to Geelong. No idea where they got that from but they seem to think that was Geelong's offer.

Free agency shouldn't last a week, especially not RFA - if needed, open it on the Wednesday and have the Monday as the last day for lodgement, so that any potential matching is completed by 5pm Wednesday

Trade Week opens on the Monday, and it finishes on the Friday at 5pm... Or if they really want their "primetime" viewing, then it goes through to 7:30pm on the Friday

They did beat us last year though. That was embarrassing
Embarrassing is being in the comp since 1897 and still being yet to register 1000 wins.

Carl: R9, 1981
Coll: R12, 1976
Ess: R1, 1988
Gee: R12, 1998
Mel: R17, 2006
Sth/Syd: R11, 2008

Even Fitzroy was on track for somewhere early 2010.

2026 and counting.

Kind of snookers us from landing Curnow. Which probably won't happen anyway.

Curnow wont get done til the last 1/2 hour if it happens at all (for the record I dont think Carlton will trade curnow).

I hear you, but not even 24 hours after the rugba leeg grand final and even NRL loving sites like foxsports.com.au were wall to wall covered with AFL trade articles. The AFL would be absolutely loving every second of it, people might want it to wind up quicker but the numbers say the majority love the drama trade week/s bring, and the AFL only care$ about one thing.

Daicos will end up at Tasmania. His story arc has a lot of Gary Ablett about it.

The son of a club legend. Won a premiership. Brownlow obsession. Best and fairest grievances. Coach frustrations.

New club enters the scene with huge money just as it appears current side about to fall over (incorrect in Gary’s case as it turned out).

I can see him taking the 2m sign on bonus.

Difference between Nick and Ablett is that Nick doesn't need to support the rest of his family financially.

Daicos has signed the big long term deal at the time which post TDK, NWM doesn't look so big anymore.

He will just use the Tassie offer to screw every last dollar out of Collingwood on a revised contract.
