As a reminder there's still basically a full week of trade period left (I know it's a stupidly drawn out charade)

From memory, 12 months ago we hadn't even heard any rumblings about Houston coming to us a week out from the deadline - still plenty of time for a few surprise domino's to fall, or a rabbit out of the hat (in true trade radio fashion I'm trying to use as many lame metaphors as possible)

We had more to trade with then than we do now.

The worry was always going to be the potential distraction from Clarry. The media noise surrounding his extra curriculars would have increased even further playing at Collingwood. It's a shame we don't get to see what he could bring to our team but I think his decision to go to GWS will be beneficial for all parties.

Based on McRae's comments I think any interest was contingent on a meeting with Oliver and we're unlikely to move forward based on his behaviour. Assume he's already made a decision, but even if not I doubt we take it further.

Maybe Clayton got bamboozled by Sydney and it’s baffling non-grid system streets which is why he & Leppa can’t find each other.

I’m disappointed. A no go from club decisions is fine. A no go from a manager/player choosing to not respect the club is disappointing. I will hold there because the sequence is not confirmed.

Looking like we dodged a bullet.

If we were going to sign him everything from his side had to be perfect to allay concerns over character and professionalism. Any hiccups along the way would close the door.

My disappointment wanes, however, when I think about the possible improvement of the likes of Ben Allen, Jiath, Reef, West and others.

I think we will be OK.

A couple of nice pick-ups would be nice of course. And it wouldn't do us any harm if we miss finals for one year and get a nice draft hand. I hope we can contend forever, but as we see year in, year out, draft hands play a major role.

He's been mentioned before but is Tsatas someone we take a hail mary on?

Doesn't seem to be in big favour down at Essendon so might be willing to move and be attainable.

I know his kicking is seen as an issue but his production levels at VFL level look decent, by all accounts has speed which is a plus for us in terms of our mix and I see he racked up 11 clearances (average of 5) against Adelaide this season from only 63% TOG.

Oliver wasn’t part of our plans until the prospect of getting him ultra cheap cropped up. So he’s no loss especially given his behaviour since the season ended. He clearly doesn’t want to be at Collingwood.

We don’t need to ever miss finals if we adopt the Geelong model of salary cap cheating.
It’s a bit like going over the soft cap.
You pay a $77K tax to the AFL and they suspend $40K of it with no other penalties.
