Roast David Walls -draft master but trade flop

No idea how people still think the Bolton trade was good.

His year was very disappointing, he would be close to our top paid player and can't even make the top 10 of the BnF.

He kicks close to 1 in 3 goals he attempts. Can't hit 30m easy passes to forwards.
Because got reid too?

Not everyone is Lachie Neale Or Jordan Dawson mate, some players take time to adjust to the new scenery.

I dont see what the problem is really. We basically traded picks 12 and 33 for 19 and 23. The former pair didn’t work to get Juddy while the latter pair keeps us near enough to the pin while getting Juddy.

If that was the whole trade no problem.

We then also traded 44 and 50 for pick 46.

Riddle me that?

It's pretty extreme to start a roast thread over two junk picks we weren't going to use anyway.

I didn’t label it a roast thread, the mods did. It’s just reality, he’s not very good at standing his ground and extracting value. It’s hidden by the top notch drafting and sign ons; Treacy, Voss, Reid.

But those picks are shit, especially once they're pushed out, so does it really matter enough to be self flagellating over?

I'm not exactly thrilled by today's trade but now you've laid out the full history, it's... alright? A couple of bad ones but a lot of good ones. A lot of them look better in hindsight as well.

I will say he hasnt really bent anyone over a barrel a la the Weller trade which probably doesn't help his perception. People like to view every trade as a zero sum game with a winner and a loser. If McVee (and Whan) turn out well i won't really care much even if pick 33 turns out a gun.

The Bolton trade being a flop when it netted us Reid is a good laugh. That doesn't mean we "won" the trade or Richmond "lost" because again it isn't a zero sum game. It improved our team, regardless of Shai's hot and cold form, and the Tigers will probably improve from it as well.

The notion hes some drafting genius is also OTT imo

He’s a good list manger. He’s an awful negotiator with trades. Both can be true

In terms of talent our list is great but he’s consistently had us one of the youngest teams year after year. That looks to be no different this year with outgoing 34, 33, 29, 27 and 25 year olds and incoming 22 year old + draftees (yes the outgoings were mostly depth but that’s still experienced depth gone).

The guy is allergic to trading for anyone over the age of 25 with the exception of JOM for some reason.

FWIW I don’t consider list age to be as important as others and think with the amount of talent at our disposal that we should be contending regardless but I’ve been repeatedly told on here that this is a make or break factor.

He’s an elite talent identifier, bleh at everything else.

He’s not working in isolation though. The decisions he makes are informed by the various managers, coaches, bosses and board, ie the club tells him what it wants. He’s not a rogue operator

Just curious: Did you mean to bold Dudley and not Voss in that example? You've had some interesting takes in the past but mostly I can kinda almost...ish see where you're coming from (not necessarily agree but also not going out of my way to argue either) except that one example.
I didn't for Dudley as this was his first season in the AFL
