The reason the saints didn't want to go ahead with the aleer deal is that the board apparently didn't want to trade future picks (call bs on it).

What makes them think that they will then turn around and trade a future first for degoey.

Doesn't sound right. When has a board ever stepped in to stop a club trading future 2nd rounders?

A simple response to this is does Carlton say yes to it? Geelong probably aren’t dropping below 4th in any of those years before you add Curnow you then add him and it’s unlikely any of those picks are before 20. It’s a nothing offer.

This just strikes me as lose lose in the long run. As someone with zero love for either club, that does make for a nice turn of phrase, if nothing else.

Which, as you point out, is all academic if the Blues knock it back.

That said, I'm not as eager as you to predict Geelong finishing top 4 for several years in a row. It also makes me vomit a little bit.

I think Simpkin is a good option. Pace and run through the middle is something we should be looking for.

Simpkin is averaging 22 posessions in a side that hardly ever wins. Not easy to do. I’ve always thought he was having a red hot crack for the Kangas.

The fact that he hasn’t played good football for a long time now, is on a massive deal and they will want top end currency for a player who isn’t at the elite level yet is being paid as one for starters

We've been connected with a number of targets. With future firsts able to be traded I think it's fairly likely we get a deal done somewhere for a best 23 player.

Though, most of the "connections" have not come from the club, those would only be Silvagni and Oliver I think.

The report that we're "looking" at Sympkin, even if true, doesn't mean we're ready to trade for him. Discussions may only be preliminary.

I’m struggling to see how Geelong lose out of it? They get a 2 time Coleman medalist to pair with their other two time Coleman medalist for what likely amounts to a token price. What’s your rationale for them dropping away after adding Curnow to their already fantastic mix?
