The issue is we have no good young KPDs and we need to start developing one ASAP. I’d still prefer Schubert but would be ok with Dovaston. Could play round 1 and impact faster but we need a KPD plan.
I reckon the KPDs can come next draft. The middle is where the main concern is for mine. Take 3 or 4 who can go through the middle this draft and then get some big defenders next either by draft or preferably they start using high end picks for trading in some established guns.

LOL, cheers AFL house:
  • Deny the wooden spooners the ability to bring in a RFA without diluting FA compo when the Premiers pillage their Captain/one of their best players.
  • Enable a grand finalist to pillage the competitions best forward from a bottom 8 side by completely re-writing the trade rules in the middle of trade week and a month before the draft.
Never change :drunk:
Amazing they can change rules on the run . Didnt do this last year for dogs to get 2 1st rounders for Bailey Smith Geelong shouldnt even have a 1st round this year.

Yeah.

I will be one of many WC supporters who will be holding their breathe every time he goes near the ball.

Just waiting for that final head contact.
Absolutely, it's not something we can just bury our head in the sand about and hope it's not gonna happen again. It's a reality that has affected this club multiple times in recent history. There is also no precautions that can be taken to minimise the risk. He himself has said that he won't change the way he plays. If he does, we won't be getting the player that we traded in for.

I don't like the decision to recruit Starcevich because of the concussion issues. The price we paid to get him wasn't bad if we were getting a fully fit Starcevich. That being said it's done now and he is on the list so we just have to hope for the best.

As for the rest of our trades, if you look at other deals what we gave and what we got relative to those is pretty close to what you would expect. And if you look at other clubs down the bottom like Richmond and North no high quality players put their hand up to go there either. Thats just how it is when you are down the bottom. So i don't fault Clarke and co for that.
As much as it's disappointing that there are some good inside mids who are or may be available, we need to look at where these guys are moving to. Oliver looks likely to land at GWS (finals team) also reportedly drew some interest from Geelong (finals team) and Collingwood (finals team). Hawthorn and Adelaide (finals teams) were also interested in Petracca before he chose Gold Coast (finals team). Flanders wanted to get back to Victoria and picked St Kilda (not finals team, but bringing in a lot of talent). Steele seems like he wants to stay at St Kilda, but he's apparently ruled out West Coast anyway. Merrett wants to leave Essendon and his main suitor is Hawthorn (finals team).

The other thing is, even when WCE or Freo have been good, when have our clubs ever really been a destination for good non-Westralians? The formula for building a good side in Perth has been to draft well from the WA pond, draft well from interstate and keep those types of guys (Shuey, Gaff, Hurn, Pavlich, Mundy, etc) through settling in to Perth and making a lot of mates at the club, and bring back WA kids (Cripps, Yeo) who are homesick and doing it pretty early in their footy careers, to get their best years out of them for the WA clubs. It's never been a thing for A-grade lifelong Victorians to pick up and move to Perth near the prime of their footy careers.

They are doing us a favour, let Geelong blow 3 first rounders for him.

I'd be pretty stoked if we managed to get Duursma and Patterson with 1 and 2. I don't see any risk to bidding on Uwland and Patterson with pick 1 if GC don't do the pick 7 trade with us, as I'd love for us to end up with either.

Worst case scenario they match and we make them flush a whole load of picks, which moves all our other picks in.
Have picks 1 2 and 13
Picking up Duursma patterson and farrow ?
3 x HBF 🤣

That would go down well on this board

I suggest poster start looking at what we will get with Charlie Banfield. His later form during the year showed he has become a balanced mid.

I have been wanting Cumming as I had seen him as the best balanced mid in the open pool. If we get Sharp and Duursma, we have an inside mid and a polished outside mid. Would our list build be better with Charlie and Cumming or as others are seeing, Charlie and Dovaston to add to our game winners?

To be fair, I’d love both but I’m coming around to liking eit

Out of our club tied small forwards, none dominate like Dovaston. Dovaston with Tyler would be welcome additions to Miniball.
Can definitely see it with Banfield.
I still think Cumming is a priority over Dovaston but not opposed to him if we keep pick 13.
If we take Duursma we need Sharp and Cumming imo.

If we trade back and get other picks without Duursma we then probably take Sharp, Cumming, Schubert and take Dovaston as the next best talent.
With 2, 5, 6, 13.

I hate the idea of taking a HF/SF like Dovaston with all our small stocks but he looks very talented and higher quality.
Our SF/HF stocks of Long, Champion, Newton, Dewar, Owies, T Williams, Walley are many but low quality.
I would expect 3 of those to be gone within 2 years plus Cripps, this is the only way we take Dovaston imo.

This is exactly how it is in the footy landscape unfortunately.
Its also the reason its harder to build for the WA teams with no interest from A grade players without a connection to WA to move, also B grade players on the fringe of clubs, they just move down the road or a 1 or 2 hour flight away instead of 5.
It takes us longer to build our team unless these A grade players with a WA connection are available at the right time.

Who'll be available with 1 of our extra rookie picks?
How likely is shanahan from our nga to make it? I dont think we need to rush into a kpd. None of our are old

Going by pure midfielders only the top 3 would be Sharp, Narrow, Grlg.

the rest are hybrids of sort and ruck

1. Duursma (best rated player)
2. Sharp (best rated mid)
I like Grlj's speed, but there's better. Robey, Cumming. Grlj is no more a pure mid than Robey.

So mihocek goes to the dees for a F3.

And you all stressing about Ryan trade🤣
Wasn't he an unrestricted agent ?

Ryan was contacted and just turned 29

Mihocek turns 33 in February

Collingwood would have got nothing for him but got a F3 because Melbourne wanted to keep their spargo compo

5-12 Schubert
20-40 Thredgold, Curtin
40+/rookie Ainsworth, Stumpf
Trade Aleer

Haven’t seen enough of Shanahan to form a strong opinion yet.

Dovaston plays up the ground and works hard up and back.

So he is more of a Cripps HHF than a small crumbing forward.

Dovaston, Dewar and Champion are three non tall forwards but with all having different styles and strengths

I like that mix.

Throw Hutchinson as a taller / marking medium HHF we have our 4 medium / small forward setup.

Dewar feels more of a wing than fwd. Yeah he's kicked a couple of goals but he's not a crumber.

Hopefully someone just really grabs their chance

Yep, another HHF / wing / rebounding half back.

The kid can take big marks like Bolton and is a good shot on goal on the run.

Good bench utility IMO with x factor and pace.

I feel like we've got a lot of "hybrid" types which is good if they are good at one or the other but we seem to have meh in all areas other than the Key spots
