I call this as BS

How many if our trades fall-over? - not many

GWS don’t like us because we marched Harley through to PSD and Sydney know we pants them in Dawson deal - knowing PSD was an option we used before
Don't mistake arrogance for not getting deals done though. He doesn't have to be Mr Popular to get trades done.

oh please Geelong would know - if they not offering george stevens a contract hes not at the level.
They haven't delisted him as yet so he's obviously still in their considerations probably depending on their trade/draft outcomes. They've already delisted Pat Retschko and Xavier Ivisic over a week ago.

Not much to lose if one of our 3rd rounders went their way and we get a big bodied mid with a bazooka boot to strengthen our midfield depth, who knows maybe he could even become a regular. One things almost for sure he'll be more likely to play AFL than any mid we'd draft with our current picks.

What a shit offseason for us.
Not sure what you expected, not much really happening for every team this year

Teams have locked up their players on lengthy contracts worried about Tassie and losing youngsters

All we can do is get into the ears of the players coming out of contract soonish - hence Sanders/Will Day etc

I expected us to look at our list and improve it. We haven't.

We have had 5 plus years to make sure we have the midfield talent necessary and someone has to be responsible for a lack of ability to get it done.

A future 2nd for an uncontracted 28 year old decent role player is really not underpaying looking at historical trades.
And BRIS have announced Ah Chee's departure at the B&F ......so a future 2nd is fine .....add a 3rd round this year if you want steak knives

Or, and this might be a novel idea, his management says "He's going to Adelaide" and nobody else drafts him

That’s an option too. But it’s different to Pete’s claim that he has ‘a right to choose his new employer like every other Australian’. That’s fantasy land stuff, he can only move yo us via the mechanisms provided by the AFL. And if that falls down then he’s subject to being taken by another club, regardless of his wishes. And the only way that changes is by dismantling the rules, which won’t happen without Ah Chee winning in court.

I do think front loading $2m into year 1 would see him get to us in either draft.

Would be quite amusing after hyping this trade period up if Curnow stays at Carlton, Marshall stays at the Saints, Merrett stays at Essendon and the only big names to be traded are Oliver and Petracca. Petracca is only happening because the Suns always end up with infinite first round picks every year due to the ridiculous concessions they get from the AFL; otherwise, it would have just been Oliver in a salary dump to the Giants.

Why listen to Trade Radio, if 2 min later the socials spread the news ....avoids all the adds, and padding by the presenters
Exactly. I listen to Gettable on a delayed podcast (and by delayed, I mean 45 mins delayed). Other then that, I wait for posters to post about it. Saves me listening to the daily Vic circle jerk and tire commercials.

I was only just told the other day that Justin Reid is a bit arrogant and not super popular with many other clubs (this is from someone that actually deals with him outside of the public eye). Hasn't really impacted us at the trade table in recent years though, so not sure it matters all that much.

That’s how you want your executable instrument to be seen. Arrogance can be a bit of a problem at times maybe. Like saying on day 1 that a first won’t be involved. Your opponent who’s also a bit arrogant and type A might decide to make your life tough just for the shits and giggles. You can be certain it’s not going to enhance the likelihood of an early acceptance of the future second that you’re planning on getting the player with.

Regardless of what we end up paying, this one’s going the distance.

No way Hawks are letting Day go, but is anyone worried about the long term impacts from his persistent foot issues? Has ended careers before if you can't get it right

I saw this reported somewhere else earlier this year but I forget where. Something about how Reid was one of the more difficult list managers to work with.

Reckon there was an advertiser article where they surveyed all the list managers. Reid was about 4th hardest to deal with. Saints were top I reckon with Dons around the mark too.

After our discussion, that's how I see it too. Looking to the back of next year and there aren't many big important contracts to extend either. Max and Taylor, maybe go at extending Rankine a year early but its not pressing.

Regardless, there should be ample salary cap space for a big front load in 2026 and even 2027 if its necessary to carry out a legit PSD threat.

The AFL need to go back to a 1 week trade week, they're losing fan interest by dragging it out and making it more boring than it needs to be.

Why? Their brand is on the back pages of papers, first story on the news, and dominating socials 2 weeks after the season ended.

It's all the BS rumours and who's playing golf with who, and who's at the airport that generates clicks. This year it seems more than ever.

Wouldn't be surprised if the AFL extend it to 2 weeks moving forward.

Something tells me that was a short conversation.
