Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

You know how every man and his dog are saying this is a shit draft and clubs are actively trading out of it. Does that mean Jevan is ordinary????
Yes if you believe all the talk.

I’m not sure how true it is, I’m going to ask around over the next few weeks. Last years was a very good draft so maybe it’s just the contrast.

Anyone else find it interesting that…

Battle (left)
Marshall (wanting to leave)
Steele (has been asked to leave)
Wilson (yet to re-sign and rumours he may want out)

Along with Howard (previously shopped)

Are all managed by the same management group.

Of which the only client who seems happy with us is Wood and we haven’t been linked to a single Hemisphere client in return.

🤔
Interesting observation
Their Instagram has Sam Flanders as a client

I agree, if you compare Keeler and Hammer just on forward craft, leading patterns and general forward understanding. Keeler is miles in front, he just needs to go away and add some size and strength this off season

Casboult is a great comparison btw
He’s big, he’s young and he doesn’t mind physical football.

I think Mihocek is a great comparison, a guy who turns up contests hard and can kick a goal. It’s the physicality that sets Caminiti apart, it’s not a strength of King, Sharman and you need that guy who makes the opposition nervous.

All the more reason to let Marshall go. Hopefully Cats come to the party.
I just don’t see the push to trade Marshall.

We’re better with him so why take a meh pick if we don’t have to. Look I know he’ll be worth less next year but really a late first this year isn’t that much better than a second in next years draft. If we keep him we get to see how the new rules work, if king can get back and stay fit, how we’ll set up etc.

It’s a blow our socks off or it’s a no from me.

I ain't no tiktoker so hopefully the link works but just randomly came across this, worth it for a laugh. Good job lads! 😄
I like how the commentators there stopped talking at the end and allowed the song and the crowd noise to come through. Now that’s good craft.

he's more likely to take out King than an opponent

For a big guy TDK is good by hand and foot aswell. Not necessarily talking out of stoppage by foot but he is good by hand in that area and good by foot when he gets involved in chains.
Marshall is excellent chaining as well to be fair.

I'm not suggesting we take a meh pick, that's why I said I hope Geelong come to the party.

But if they do, it 100% makes sense to trade him. Every year the flag is won with average ruckman, so why have two quality rucks when we can get something good for him and use to fill other holes in our list?

The only thing that had me thinking it was worth paying TDK the big contract for me was that we can then offload Marshall and basically buy draft picks.

I also rate Dodson very highly. I think there's a good chance he ends up better than both of them.

They'll find a way somehow..

Aleer's been in the system for 5 years now...when does potential tag run out..
Recruiters seem to love potential over exposed form.

Exposed form costs and everyone goes with well yes you can’t miss with that pick. Potential gets you guru status if you land a few but it rarely comes off. Interestingly he was a high draft pick but was considered a stretch where he was taken, he was also an overager so had all the hallmarks of boom or bust.

Its going to be a tough choice, but if Marshall plays forward I think Owens or Caminiti will be the players who gets squeezed.

Sharman adds more flexibility and hits the score board consistently particularly when not being reqd to play a key positional role.
Owens and Sharman are both guns IMO, and should he automatic inclusions every week.

Our side really lacks a tough edge. Owens is a must for that reason. Once he is the third banana he will be a nightmare matchup.

Sharman is just a very skilled footballer with a great workrate. Looks set to be our version of Jack Gunstan.

Personally, I think many on here are forgetting about some of King's deficiencies defensively. Whilst having him back as a target will make us more dangerous, he needs to be paired with hard workers like Sharman and Owens, or we will be just too easy to play against.

King's second efforts are as poor as any other forward in the comp, apart from his brother who has laid about 3 tackles his entire career.

He’s had over a year to think about it though.

I’ve seen some teams smash the opposition by zigging when everyone else was zagging.

We’ve just seen it again, Brisbane couldn’t go big up forward and unsettled the best teams with a mobile set up. I’m happy to play two quality rucks which few teams will be able to match.

Grundy and Gawn didn’t work not because two rucks won’t work but because they couldn’t work together. You had two guys on big money who both want 95% game time and want to spend it in the ruck. Marshall and TDK are very similar, both play to some extent like old fashioned ruck rovers and look like they could play as keys, it’s a tactical advantage to rule the air.

I’m quite pumped at the possibilities it throws up plus it’s cover for king who must have some questions marks next to his name given his injury run.

Yes I’m a huge Dodson fan but injuries happen every year so he’ll still get some opportunity’s plus it shows him there’s a path for him at st kilda. If we ditch Marshall because we’re a club who doesn’t believe two rucks are a bonus then surely he’s looking to get out. TDK is on a massive long term contract so he’s not pushing him out anytime soon.

Caminiti more likely to make it as a defender

He was pretty good forward in his first season. Structure wise we seemed to use him as a big pack crasher with Cordy very deep. If King stays very deep that big spiller role is still important. Just as a pure spiller to stop the opposition interceptors picking us off and feed the smalls.

He’s certainly not blue chip. Has appeal but looks like he would have been a later pick last year.

It had to of. Everyone else was concerned about it. Then in the last round a number of our forwards caught him out.
Only fly in that ointment is the fact that we offered GWS a F2 & F3 for Leek & their F2.

If the Giants take that then Leek is a Saint & the ‘we changed our mind bc he’s no good’ theory is blown to bits.

I thought Fincher played pretty well in the VFL game i watched and he is not even in any of Twomeys top 30 from the 3 monthly draft ratings he has done
