Now that the 2025 season is over, it means the next competitive game involving AFL players will be the Victoria vs Western Australia State of Origin game on February 14th at Perth Stadium. For reference, below are the teams that AFL.com.au suggesting could be selected for Victoria and Western Australia. The coaches that end up being selected should be interesting as well. Perhaps John Worsfold for WA and Ken Hinkley for Victoria?

VICTORIA
B:
Tom Stewart (Gee), Jacob Weitering (Car), James Sicily (Haw)
HB: Dan Houston (Col), Darcy Moore (Col), Lachie Whitfield (GWS)
C: Hugh McCluggage (Bri), Nick Daicos (Col), Caleb Serong (Fre)
HF: Patrick Dangerfield (Gee), Jeremy Cameron (Gee), Toby Greene (GWS)
F: Dylan Moore (Haw), Charlie Curnow (Car/Syd/Gee), Sam Darcy (WB)
Foll: Max Gawn (Mel), Zak Butters (PA), Marcus Bontempelli (WB)
I/C: Matt Rowell (GC), Ben King (GC), Christian Petracca (Mel/GC), Jack Sinclair (StK)

Western Australia

B: Brandon Starcevich (WC), Sam Taylor (GWS), Tom Barrass (Haw)
HB: Jordan Clark (Fre), Jeremy McGovern (WC), Nathan Broad (Ric)
C: Nic Martin (Ess), Patrick Cripps (Car), Liam Baker (WC)
HF: Darcy Jones (GWS), Jesse Hogan (GWS), Cam Zurhaar (NM)
F: Jake Waterman (WC), Aaron Naughton (WB), Oscar Allen (Bri)
Foll: Darcy Cameron (Col), Stephen Coniglio (GWS), Chad Warner (Syd)
I/C: Luke Jackson (Fre), Trent Rivers (Mel), Mitch Georgiades (PA), Elliot Yeo (WC)

Straight off the bat, you have to take McGovern out of the WA team because he has since retired.

Impossible to think that Nick Vlastuin wouldn't make the Vic team......

Nic Martin ACL, won't be fit in February unfortunately
Would Shai Bolton replace him on the wing? Can't believe Bolton wasn't picked in that AFL.com.au WA state team...

Not really sure why AFL.com.au didn't include many small forwards for WA, but you'd think some players like Shai Bolton, Kozzy Pickett, Bobby Hill and Callum Ah Chee will likely feature. I think they got carried away and picked too many key forwards without thinking about the balancing them out with small forwards.

Would think Vlaustin for D Houston in VIC team. Houston has been a disappointment and didn’t finish top 10 in Pies B&F. At nearly 36, I don’t think Danger should be playing. He’s been there and done that.

No way Yeo plays.
He wouldn't make the team on merit but given it is in Perth I expect Harley Reid to be selected for Victoria.
I'd agree with that. There's plenty of other options to replace Yeo.

Harley Reid probably does gets named on the Victorian bench just to ensure interest from the West Coast fans.

I think this would be my WA forward line more balanced with some small forwards like Bolton and Pickett:

HF: S.Bolton, J.Hogan, C.Zurhaar
F: K.Pickett, A.Naughton, M.Georgiades

This is your forward line no Charlie Cameron

I don't see how Charlie Cameron could be considered a West Aussie under any form of State of Origin criteria. Born in Mount Isa, grew up in Mornington Island, boarded in Brisbane (where he first played footy for Marist) until he was 17 and then moved to WA. How could he possibly be considered anything other than a Queenslander when he was born here and spent the first 17 years of his life here?

I think he's ineligible for WA if the rules are serious (which they should be). Shai Bolton and Kozzy Pickett aren't bad replacements!

He was drafted from WA the same way Will Ashcroft could be considered for Victoria

Kozzie was born in SA
Kozzie was born in SA but moved to WA at a very young age and spent majority of his childhood and teen years in WA. I believe a lot of his family are Western Australians as well. He Moved back to SA to play footy and lived with Byron at around 17 years old I think.

He could probably qualify for both states, but I think he probably feels more aligned with WA, especially considering he was considering moving back there.

It really depends on the rules, but it's not just where the player is born - where the player grew up should be taken into consideration.

Mate, if you get anything like 60% of those players for a kick n giggle in mid-February, I'll go heave

Hopefully all of our players over the age of 19 are unavailable.

Ridiculous time of year for this. Either the players will be at 50% effort and the crowd is bored, or they play at 100% and someone gets a serious injury and it disappears for another 30 years.
100% this.

It will be like the annual NBA all stars game.

Just a bruise free exhibition game.

Working with the public. Been asking tons of people about their interest in SoO. First of all, tons of them didn't know AFL would have it. Second, they mostly DGAF whatsoever.

Very different to when it was 3 different leagues and there was some real pride on the line. Will be a bruise free, rubbish game of footy most likely.
