They traded from out the 8th to 1st...with some internal improvement of course.I do too. Very frustrating. Just look at Adelaide’s off season last year.
Pick up role players with 2nd rounders and keep their first?I do too. Very frustrating. Just look at Adelaide’s off season last year.
Cumming had little impact ANB played his role as did PeatlingThey traded from out the 8th to 1st...with some internal improvement of course.
It tells us everything we need to know that we were prepared to pay the mid Cal Wilkie in excess of $1.5 million a season to understand the reality that the club faces. I know you hold a moneyball candle for Taylar Young. But, errr Butts was/is the only viable candidate who would move the KPD needle for us and he was pretty clearly unobtainable unless we moved the Wilkie money over to him and that would've been insane. And even then Adelaide were under no obligation to do anything than hold him to his contract.Just last year "Moneyball" was all the rage - now we don't want anyone better than what we have unless they're a bona fide star?
How many 'star' KPDs are there in the competition? Nobody is letter a 'star' go unless it's for crazy overs.

Elaborate?Having spoken to my list manager contact this morning, my disappointment in the club cannot be put into words.
That's why we bailed on Butts.
I suppose it depends on the definition of 'star'.Just last year "Moneyball" was all the rage - now we don't want anyone better than what we have unless they're a bona fide star?

Seriously. Whats the point of this post?Having spoken to my list manager contact this morning, my disappointment in the club cannot be put into words.
Michael Reagan has been driving this, or at least in both his interviews during the trade period he has emphasised the qualitative aspect of trading players over the quantitative. Maybe because we have brought in a lot of B and C graders in the last few years. Over time, that can degrade your overall list quality. Compare that to what the Hawks, Lions and Cats have brought in, and I think that’s when you start to see the disparity in list quality.Just last year "Moneyball" was all the rage - now we don't want anyone better than what we have unless they're a bona fide star?

We asked with ButtsI'd rather a proper 2nd tier key defender rather than relying on Gardner or even expecting Coffield to step up and essentially play as a third KPD. That strategy potentially cost us a couple of games this season, whereas a "second grade" Butts in their place for those handful of games could very well have had us finishing top 4.
And a lot of key defenders go from "very solid" to exceptional at the around the age of 26-27 - odds are that one of the options we could have had at a reasonable price could very well leave us with eggs on our faces if they make the step up.
Just like how every new recruit was the player we were chasing all along and was a shock to make it to that pick.I suppose it depends on the definition of 'star'.
Regan's comment about only trading for someone better than we currently have seems a fair enough rule of thumb.
In some areas, this sets the standard for a 'star' fairly modestly.

It also makes sense of our pursuit of Wilkie and Butts."Gun key defender" are Tom Morris' words though, not the Club's.
Replace the hyperbole with, "A player who will make us better", and suddenly we're all back on the same page.
Edit: Will make us better and be willing to come!
You mean you aren't outraged that the club isn't chasing a Tim O'Brien type? Wtf is wrong with you!Glad the club are not trading in any KPD just for the sake of doing it if they not going to improve the club what’s the point doing down that path

I'd prefer an Ed Barlow/Mark Austin typeYou mean you aren't outraged that the club isn't chasing a Tim O'Brien type? Wtf is wrong with you!
Sure, trade hypotheticals and discussion are all well and good, as are counter views pointing out the utter pointlessness of them. But the reality is that all the unrealistic trade scenarios do is build up an unrealistic expectation of what is likely to transpire. Especially as the club has been steadfast in its trade strategy of not trading just for trades sake.
We see the same thing unfold nearly every year after the dust settles on the Trade period as boards across bigfooty collectively sigh 'Is that it?'
There might be a couple of blockbuster trades. But entire 10 days or whatever it goes over is all smoke, mirrors and hype. One that will ultimately see a couple of dozen or so mid range or less players change clubs. Very few of whom were ever attainable and even fewer filled a need with us.
Regardless of this boards Hungry Hungry Hippo like desire to gobble up every single player mentioned in dispatches.
This worries me. The only thing worse than no trades is Steven fecktard MayHaving spoken to my list manager contact this morning, my disappointment in the club cannot be put into words.
May for pick 106 would be fine. This worries me. The only thing worse than no trades is Steven fecktard May
Thanks. Yes that article is where I had been looking.I made a mistake in applying a 20% discount. I think it’s now only 20%
It’s not the full new rules, no idea where that is, but see from this article:
Under the outgoing bidding system, clubs have had a points deficit limit at 1723 points, meaning they could only go that far into deficit to match bids. Any further and they would not be allowed to match a bid on a draftee.
The number was the equivalent of the total points attached to the group of picks assigned to the premiership team each year: No.18, 36, 54 and 72.
But with clubs heading into next year's model, they will have their new points deficit reduced to 1167 points, equal to pick 18 (836 points), 36 (317), 54 (14) and 72 (0) in the new model.
