I think its pretty simple. Drop the request for 22 back and its a done deal. Don't and he stays. Id be ok with F3 back if need be.

No need to bluff. I think 22 back puts the deal enough in their favour that we are best off keeping Charlie.

But I doubt they tank the deal over 22. At this stage they need this to happen more then us. I think we can be strong here and be 80% sure they will cave

We will be finishing above Sydney and Geelong in 2026 if Charlie stays. And then he won’t be going anywhere.

Actually disagree.

Geelong to be bought down by Bailey Smith antics.
Sydney trading away their depth & key parts of their culture for Curnow, also Cox looks like a desperate coach.

Collingwood also to go off a cliff.

I might chuck a cheeky $100 on all 3 of those to miss the 8.

You’ve got to set him straight.
Acting like a pillock won’t be tolerated.
Put him in the centre for all boxing drills. All-in attack.
Denting his own brand and endorsements.
Time to grow up, Charlie.

He is what he is. He's 28. turning 29. He isnt growing up now.

Agree. The clock is actually on our side now. Sydney have effectively pushed two players out to make this happen. Its clear they want Charlie badly. We can just sit back and wait now. They will blink

If we like the bones of it, they need to throw 32 in or an F2 to go straight to Buku AT A MINIMUM.

But I still think we need more (like the 3 x firsts and Hayward including 2027 ala Geelong. Florent as a salary dump to sweeten the deal). Throw back 67 and put the onus on them to sort out points for King.

Not our problem.

I simply don't think that's an option the club should take.

Hate this prime time holding of deals crap too. If clubs are ready to lodge, let them do it. There’s been enough theatre, just let the clubs actually be football clubs. Honestly no other sport in the world tries this shit
You really think deals don't go through so they can save them for tv....?????

Have to remember what Wrights focus was coming in and why we kept Voss

Wants to bring in a group of mature depth players, make more room in SC and change culture and standards around the club

Trading Charlie allows us to do a lot of that in one go. Having a pick for Cody now allows us to target players next year without having to trade for another early pick.

IMO the benefits of doing this now far outweigh the negatives

No one is being pushed around. Charlie doesn’t want to be at Carlton and will definitely do this again next year if he stays

We have a massive chance to reset the club the way Wright wants

As for Petracca how well did staying a year help the club? If anything if contributed to lack of effort and standards during year. Oliver the same

We will need another good 1st round pick to get Cody. That will cost and eat into further opportunities

Keeping a player that doesn’t want to be there is not good.

We are trying to change our culture and standards. Keeping Charlie for another year won’t help that
And will be a cultural waste. Doesn’t make sense now to keep Charlie. Let him go but we’ve got a day to neg 22. Go Blues.

Like many, drop pick 22 and it’s a deal. While it’s sad it’s gone this way for Charlie, I can separate the ‘love’ and ‘emotion’ and happy to see him go. No one is bigger than the club, and it’s clear 2x ‘big’ high $$ forwards doesn’t work with our current Voss plan. Maybe it would work with another system, but we won’t know.
Club ain’t winning so it needs to change

Yep. Too much on the line for them now...

What's the locker room going to be like with two guys who made long term commitments to your club that you tried to force out?

Let's not forget they also asked Rowy about moving too...

Would be a pack of rank amateurs to let all the effort fall apart over a pick 22.

Find another way to get an early pick this year.

I’d do 22 for their pick 32 and F2, they can have Max King this year but they pay for it
We can then trade in that F2 into this year and probably get a better pick than 22 OR Swans just trade their own F2 for a reasonable second rounder this year

FWIW, Florent is a fine player. He brings outside run and carry, which he does "OK", but nothing extraordinary. Hasn't ever averaged much over 20 touches, doesn't kick a ton of goals. He is still an upgrade (depth-building) on our bottom 6, for sure. His contract for too many $ definitely reduces his trade value to not a whole lot. If it was Florent, in isolation, being traded somewhere he'd be worth... what... a pick in the 30s? He'd be OK shopping for someone trying to add quality depth without giving up big assets.

So he is not the biggest piece in these suggested Curnow trade scenarios - probably the smallest asset, really. But not worth nothing, and not a bad player at all.

The last thing we want is a saga to drag on all year long about Charlie wanting to go to Geelong, which he and his manager will push for again. It does nothing positive for us.

Will be interesting to see what else Sydney will offer!

More chance of us making a trade with Sydney that includes their F1 and then the AFL turning around and giving the Swans the easiest fixture list in the sports history with double up games against this years bottom 6.
