Exactly. Behaviour must of been pretty bad to be booted from the team Ollie plays in and to have no suitors at all.
This article in the age (https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl...a-much-lonelier-struggle-20251010-p5n1nq.html) outlines some of the issues he had, obviously this is his perspective but it sounds like he was having a really difficult time. Based on this I wouldn't have an issue with us giving him a go if we think he's up for it.

Thomas on the other hand is a different issue and I don't think the two situations should be conflated. What he's accused of is awful and is not something the club should be willing to look past

With Dawks missing out on Merrett, do we look into a win/win Hopper trade? Hawks have lost Worpel and Hopper is a better player than him. Hopper's only on about $750k. Pick-9 for Hopper and a F2 (pick-25).

Gives Hawks some extra collateral for the Butters chase in 2026.

I would only float it if the club thought Hopper was keen to chase some success.
I'd do a swap for Ned Reeves and a future second. I'll also throw in a half eaten pankake for the road trip.

But but but points

Which team will give Taryn Thomas a lifeline? In my view at his best he is a top 30 player in the AFL so it's a fascinating situation.

Surely a club will take the risk with a 1 year deal?

Has he earned another chance?

Would we consider him as another redemption story?
I would say no. Every club now has AFLW teams and it would probably be seen as a punch in the face to the girls if they brought this guy into a club given his history.

The importance of hopper in this current team is underestimated, especially now we can keep him on the park.

Carlton are losing players left, right and centre this off-season. Hollands brother is at the club. Carlton are crying out for talented youngsters and quality ball users. Hollands is contracted for another year. They are willing to boot him out of the club for zero return. He was booted out of Gold Coast for a bag of chips. As I've said, how many red flags do you need to see in order to steer clear of this guy? Let him spend a year playing VFL or SANFL, prove he's got his sh*te together, then give him another chance.

And it's not just being asked about them by the media......it's showing up to training / team meetings etc... in an unfit state and being asked to go home. It's not showing up late and disrupting training, or not showing up at all. It's hanging out with unsavoury characters. It's the extra time and resources required to 'babysit' players whose lives are in turmoil away from the field.

It's just not as simple as 'bring him in and if he stuffs up just boot him, simple'. If you are bringing in troubled players, you need to be invested in helping them overcome their 'issues'. They won't just 'get better' if the club is not completely on board with helping to resurrect their lives off-field in order to get on-field returns.

And in the Hollands case, he is a talented player, but not of such rare talents you couldn't find another guy to do a similar job somewhere along the line. Taryn Thomas this may be different, he is another level that is more difficult to replicate. But all of what you wrote re Hollands remains true for a Taryn Thomas regardless of his level of talent.

By the time our rebuild is more or less completed after the 2026 draft, we should have all the highly talented types we need on our list, and some. We simply do not need to try to turn dog shit into chocolate by taking on troubled characters who have not proven they have overcome their issues. As you have written, Marlion Pickett, way different, years on the straight and narrow proving himself reliable and of suitable character for our footy club. Contrast that with the outrageously talented Sydney Stack. We took a punt on him, but the lack of proven track record prior to coming to the club definitely bit us in the rump.

I completely agree with you on this.

That's not a great deal for us on initial thoughts....but maybe I'm wrong. If we could get Ned Reeves it would help solve our ruck issue. Hmmmmm.....maybe.
Assuming Duursma, CDT, Robey, X Taylor, Grjl, Sharp, Cumming are all gone,

At 9, there be two of…. Schubert, Phillipou, Farrow, Lindsay, Greeves available.

I can see us looking at Lindsay and Farrow from that list.

The F1 might just pay for Tanner Armstrong next year.

And the player would probably be HH which I’m not sure we need.

Given the sacrifice is Grjl, I’m not convinced we would do it.

But the offer on paper seems fair.
And if the Tigers think the difference between Grjl/X Taylor and Farrow/Lindsay is marginal then they might bite.

But I doubt they do.

St Kilda appears to have shut up shop on this one and is uninterested in trading the ruck. Geelong’s offer of pick 19 was rebuffed early in the trade period, and it feels like a swap like a second-round pick for a third would grease the wheels enough to get it done. But talks haven’t just slowed, the Saints have deleted Andrew Mackie’s phone number and are sending all calls to voicemail. Mackie has got plenty of deals done late in the past.

In response, Mackie has disappeared, had his whole I.D. deleted from the system and been spirited away overseas to parts unknown.

It is a who can be the most uncontactable arms race between Mackie and Silvagni. Silvagni currently working on having his playing record deleted from afltables.com.

I don't mind Hopper, but believe with TT and Prestia (1 more year), we have the depth of experience around the kids, and by the time Prestia retires likely end of this year our midfield kids will be ready to take on more responsiblity.

Geelong ends up with SFA, can't get better than that!

Nah they end up with another year on all their older players which is

i agree with this - onfield coach if nothing else and seems a rippa guy which is important with the kids around - another injury free pre season and who knows as well ....

Melbourne is gonna get pick 7 & 8 and trade up for pick 2 and steal Robey from us. All cause the CFL gave West C pick 2 for a broken down hack in Allen. Farken joke.
I think if Demhe ons jump up the draft board they'll select CDT - he's a 'Jackson' clone. I don't think they'd risk spending 7&8 on Robey. That would be a huge call and a risk I can't see happening.

Thomas is PSD draft potential.
Hollands still contracted for a year ..... Carlton VFL again most likely.
