2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

Hope we do find a way to trade for Walter just so I never have to read another ****ing mock trade where people are clamouring for Walter ever again.

There is a vacuum to fill with Dev finally joining. we need a new target. if we get Walter, not sure who we can move onto next. curtin? Curtin2030.

2,34,41,52 for 7,8,F2 (MELB)
1,13 for 5,6, F1 (ESS)

5,6,7,8 and add the F1 and F2 for us.

2 goes to Melbourne for Petracca, GCS get the points that 24 from Melbourne would have got. Dees get CDT.
Then we can't match any of our academy players etc.?

Why exactly is this in any way our problem?

promise them yes....then when Merrett goes, tell them only pick 2 will be traded.

After Merrett leaves, Essendon will need a way to appease the crowd. Pick 1 is best. Pick 2 is second best way. We would have them cornered.

This would be in memory of WCE_Phil.

To me there is something very gross about a player's manager openly agitating to leave the club that he voluntarily signed a long-term contract with, let alone talking to the media and bagging out that player's current club for not accepting a trade offer.

He's advocating for his player and trying to get what his player wants. That's literally his job.

Ultimately that’s the job of a player manager, but it does feel the whole player movement thing is starting to reach a critical point.

I will have a level of respect for Essendon for the first time in my life if they don’t budge here.
I get that it's his job but talking about trade negotiations seems really slimy, especially coming down hard on one side.

Maybe he should start crapping on Hawthorn for not meeting the asking price of Essendon and only being willing to give up the equivalent of spare lint from their couch cushions (Henry Hustwaite) to acquire a 6-time best and fairest and 3-time All Australian.

They don't have 8 list spots available for that many picks do they?
I don't think so, but one suspects they will consolidate the picks into that 20-30 range. They will dump the 50's picks, probably late 30's for example when they move back in the teens turning 3 picks into 2 but carrying more points.

Carry the modest deficit into the 2R next year, we’ll have our F2, Saints F2 and Melbourne’s F2. That will cover the deficit and will get higher value than if we had those other picks this year whilst leaving picks to match Kenh etc.

Build a statue of Matt Clarke if he does that

Cant see any reason for WC to get involved today if its just trading picks.
Recruiters will be pouring over footage between now and draft day and as per natural human behaviour, will become stronger in their views of a certain player.
So if someone has a hard-on for CDT right now that will only increase between now and the draft & so will the offer

There’s a possibility we could improve our hand by getting involved as a third party to help unlock a stalemate

Provided we end up on the proper side of the ledger then it’s worth watching and waiting for any opportunity that might arise

Honestly facilitating Essendon/Merrett/Hawthorn would suck

As it is now, Hawthorn are running around looking like fools
Essendon are likely stuck with a disgruntled former captain on the books
Merrett would appear to be a s**tstain, so him not getting what he wants is good.

Where's the downside? Hawthorn and Essendon self-immolating, and Merrett heading back to Essendon to sulk? Sounds win-win-win to me.

So long as someone gets physically thrown out of a room and prevented from doing the job they were hired to do, and a Nisbett is publicly berated, otherwise it's not a true memorial.

Sure, but I find this approach really distasteful - basically trying to poison the well so thoroughly that Essendon feel they have no choice but to trade Merrett. I don't want to hear about how great a foot soldier he's been for the club and how much he loved playing for them as he's actively trying to burn the bridge and strong-arm Essendon into accepting a deal that they've deemed to be sub-par.
