This thread is becoming increasingly popular, and to keep some sort of order, we will have some….

Rules of engagement:

1. Bring valid news or links to Twitter posts from notable sources. Don’t post screenshots or “some bloke just said on SEN” or what some “trade whisperer” has posted on a Facebook page.

2. Ignore what other team boards are putting up as trade offers. Don’t quote or bring them here either.

3. Don’t post “buckle up” for the lols.

4. If you can’t say anything nice about Worpel or CJ, don’t say anything at all. The continued slaps and backhanders are just going to be deleted.

I feel like we should’ve backed off a bit and explored other options with the same vigour as soon as Essendon were adamant he wasn’t going anywhere. That said, they’ve cooked themselves not taking the deal - stubborn pricks.

Let’s just hope our mids can stay injury free, especially Day, and one or two of the youngsters have a breakthrough year. Otherwise it’s hard to see us going one step further next year with the current midfield group unfortunately.

At least we have some good draft capital for this year - may not help us in the short term but ensures our list continues to add quality depth…

FWIW with the pick we gave up for Barrass last season - Murphy Reid was on the table so you can find diamonds via the draft…

Also keeping the future 1st gives us options next season - especially if Humphrey is looking to get home again…

View attachment 2457692This is an Essendon supporters mentality. This is a bloke who has been around footy his entire life.
Stockholm Syndrome
If the shoe was on the other foot I'd be pleased too. Imagine how it'd have felt for Essendon to go all out for Crawf in 1999.

You don't want to give your arch rivals the keys to a premiership.

Nah emotions are just high for Hawks right now.

Serong and Jiath were unlikely to stay regardless of a Merrett trade.

Worpel was ready to return home, but we could of matched for him.

We got to a prelim without Day for the most of the year.

Sam and the boys need to go hard on skills training!

A big midfield focus on set plays and skills for Maginness, Mackenzie, MacDonald.C, Nash, Anderson, Ward, Watson, D’Ambriso and Watson.

If Maginness could sort out his kicking he would be very good in the midfield.

Player talent identification Has never been an issue for the Hawks team.

We will regroup, go hard at the draft and over the preseason draft.

I don't disagree with anything you said, except one key thing, the biggest thing, the Merrett trade. Why did they let it string out to the end, what was the purpose of a so-called deadline, if they weren't prepared to deal with someone else for the haul of picks? This is most definitely not a successful trade period, when the main show falls over.

Cue the melts about not getting Merrett but also realise if we had have got him some of the melters would have joined the “We payed too much” melters.

I don’t mind melters, I just can’t handle the two way melters.

The thing is, if we offered 4 firsts, then the scum would have moved the goal posts again and asked for 5! We weren’t dealing with a rational organisation. Keeping Merrett will be absolutely toxic for them even though in their deluded minds they will believe they did the right thing by him. Be very, very grateful that we have a professionally run club who is backing in Mackenzie, Ward and Butler to keep improving and why wouldn’t they! Keep the faith everyone

Where was plan B and C? Would have preferred to get in Steele or Simpkin, then waste time pursuing the unattainable. Our list is now weaker, hope Mitch gives some proper game time next year to Hustwaite and MacKenzie.
Yeh. I think our contingency plan was, these guys can’t be that F’n stupid not to accept this offer..
It’s all good.. get the very best kid at pick 10. Trade pick 22 for a future first on draft night.. Take two firsts to 26 trade period and get a deal done with a club that isn’t half soaked..

Works out better for us. Salary cap in a good spot, we need to shuffle the Merrett money around bring payments forward have that war chest for next year.

We now can be active at the draft if a player slides we can put our picks up and get overs or pick another young prospect to add to the group.

We've saved ourselves from ourselves again.

Missed on McKay and Esava.
Ended up with B1 and B2.

Again this will work itself out.

Feel for Zach and it hurts our 2026 flag chances but we are well set up for a sustained run.
Made the prelim.
2 1st round draft picks in the upcoming draft to look forward to or trade them out for future picks and make a huge play for Humphrey or Butters next trade period.
In terms of our midfield - Mackenzie, Butler and Day fit and firing for round 1 to look forward to and Weddle to train with the midfield group over summer.

We actually got worse

Did we though?

Worpel and CJ in the side just weren’t getting it done.

Remember when everyone said we’d get worse when Titch and JOM went and it was the best thing that happened to us.

Cmac x 2, Wiz, Moore and Buttler to spend time through the middle.
