If you think 2 years is all those players (other than Gunston) have left, then we dodged a bullet by not agreeing to give 4 first rounders for Merrett. We'll pick up a decent mid next year via FA because we'll still be a destination club, while you struggle to get deals done because decent players at other teams refuse to go to Essendon unless you pay them massive overs.

From my understanding, from next year, you can only match bids for high draft picks (Bewick is in pick 1 contention for the 2027 draft) with first rounders. We cannot collect second rounders to match a bid anymore.

Yeah but do we need to use a first round pick at the draft over a rolling period?

For all the ad nauseam about Zac needing to go back, Essendon have seen this before. Mayne mot to this wildfire effect but there was some pretty firm interest from St.Kilda at the end of 2019 whilst post 2020 a number of clubs, including Hawthorn again showed interest.

Hawthorn fans are certain he's a very important piece of their future and thus massively moved the needle on their Merrett offer. Based off this thread I am sure that Hustwaite will play every game for Hawthorn next year and star. Same with Mackenzie.
