2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Yep. Just what Saintsbill said. A little dweeb is our max 😂
His face looks bloated. Tells me he is holding a lot of water, I would be questioning the diet.

Still skinny AF, not surprised from what I have seen of his training intensity.

Hey at least he is taking photos with TikTokkers at the gym. Maybe he will accidently fall onto the bench and try and lift something.

I just dont understand the Jack Steele decision, especially when we gained so little in trade for him.

It certainly makes us worse next year. He might not be in our best 22, but how many times did we roll out our best 22 in 2024 - none is how many. You dont go through a season with 22 players, and I'd rather have Steele as the next mid up, rather than Jones etc.

I think in 5 years we look back and think it was the right thing to do, but in 12 months we might not have that view.

Dees should have won more but also the dees should have blown up their list 2 years ago.

4 years is a very long time in footy.
I understand them bringing in Steele with Trac / Clarry out but Mihocek is baffling (but probably cheap I guess?). He's a good player but he's 32.

I suppose Mihocek is a transitional arrangement to develop some talls with the Trac picks but jeez their list does not look in a good spot right now.

We didn't get rid of Jack Steele

The club looked at things and decided he wouldn't necessarily be best 22 next year (as you alluded to) and out of respect to him for his service to the club, were honest enough to tell Jack we'd help facilitate a trade if he wanted to look at other options.

That's the option he took.

If you want a laugh, head over to the Geelong trade thread. It’s just arrogant campaigners throwing shade at us for not accepting their “overs deal”. They’re clearly upset for missing Marshall but deflect by mentioning our lack of success, haven’t heard that one before!

Jeez I hope they stumble down the ladder in 2026
All Mackie had to do was to put Geelong’s 1st and F1 on the table and Marshall would have been theirs.

They had the picks. Didn’t want to pay the price for a contracted and required player.

Marshall should never trust them again.

I've been dealing with that mithering Vandalay tit on the Marshall trade thread. He's constantly sniffng about a "fair price" and a "decent offer".

Poor sap desn't see the reality of the kind of offer you need for a contracted player that the club are desperate to keep. He doesn't see the reality of needing to seduce the selling club and not just the player, he's stuck in that old school mentality of just seducing the player and assuming that he'll simply force his club to break their contract Lol!

Just assuming that the selling club will for happy to not only throw away 5-7 years of development but also let one of your rivals directly profit from it, and then have to spend another 5-7 years developing somebody just as good, and that's if you're lucky enough to find someone with the same potential.

Hopefully, our stance and Essendon's stance has made it clear that now you have to actually come to the club with a godfather offer at the start if you want to get it done or just don't waste anyone's time approaching in contract players unless the play is like us with DeKoning two years ago.

Schooner maker and Zones gone. Hope they get picked up in the VFL team, especially Schooner, maybe a 1 trick pony, but it's a very good trick. And still pretty young.
Yeah I'm surprised Schooey was shown the door before Byrnes. By now Byrnes is a pretty known quantity, where as Schooey is still young and developing.

Thinking now, that Geelong fc will grab Ari as a DFA & put him in the Ruck.
Or the Bullies grab him & put him at Full-Back
???
Hope so, will make either team worse.

Arie was a one trick pony. Lots of skill, not the application.
