anyone be intrested in rookie listing Arie Schoenmaker?
dropped his draft year for character/off field stuff but had the talent of a top 20 guy.
decent size and a massive left foot kick.
Had a look at his VFL stats... Went backwards this year.

If St Kilda don't want him... I certainly do not.

Genuine question, for you and for everybody else – why “Butters, obviously”? I get it’s obvious that we would be in the very long queue that will be talking to him throughout 2026, but why does everyone here think Butters is such a strong chance to get to Geelong?

Has he got strong ties to GFC or the region- not that I can find?

Will we pay him as much as other clubs – no

Can we offer or would we offer the same or better deal to get him out of Port – no, we haven’t the picks, and we don’t force players to other clubs?

Can we offer a better chance to win a premiership – we are a chance, but all of the northern state teams can offer this too?

Non-GFC supporters seem to think he is most likely headed to Footscray if he doesn’t stay.

So, why Butters?

He's from Bacchus Marsh isn't he.

Close enough.

All the intel seems to suggest that it's the Dogs or us. And he seems to be pretty determined to get home to Victoria. So I don't think the other interstate clubs are really in the race.

If we're only realistically up against one other club, we've got to be some sort of show. And I totally accept that we won't be able to match the Dogs for dollars (or for a deal to impress the Power). But if we can see a situation where Port choose not to match and we can offer a better view of life at the Cattery than the Kennel (perhaps Lenka can help in this regard), there must be some chance he spurns some dollars if we can sell enough hope and promise enough lifestyle advantage.

Im concerned that we didn't have a 2nd option in regards to Marshall..
Going into 2026 as Stanley really as our no 1 ruck... Thats a huge concerned.
Especially Blitz is another year older..
Iv got huge hope in regards to Edwards but his 2 years away.
And Conway, his basically ( sadly due to his body ) is not made for AFL
I have a strong suspicion Blics will be the starting ruck most of next year based on his performance in those first 2 finals. With support from younger rucks in short runs of games, and SDK & Neale. Stanley to play 10 games.
I’d also play Danger ~14 games to keep him fresh and give OHenry a chance to develop.

Arie is an A grade knob. Pass

..
Why should you be able to suddenly “match” an offer that is higher than your own?? Why all of a sudden is the offer on the table when it previously wasn’t??
..
I think you should be allowed to match only if your offer was within a certain % (e.g. 10%) of the rival offer. You cannot criminally undervalue and then miraculously find the money under cushions etc.

Will we look back on this trade period as our Jade Rawlings “I don’t want to drive down the highway to Geelong” / Have to settle for Brad Ottens instead moment?
I would give up Marshall and Curnow for Butters
🤞🏻

My mail is Guthrie and Bews are staying for 1 more (at least).
I don't think I've ever said this, but we're being completely moronic if that's the case.

Maybe Bews at a stretch if he's on the rookie list as depth. I don't hate that idea.

Expecting Cam to play again and going through this charade for the fourth year in a row is more than fools gold, it's complete delusion.

Spoke with someone earlier who is closely connected to a prominent player manager.

Won't repeat the exact words, but the general tone was far from complimentary towards the Saints, and whilst acknowledging that they got some wins this trade period, indicated that most other clubs and player managers will have long memories when they get to this time next year.

Words along the lines of - they've acted like tough guys this trade period but they'll pay the price in future.

Yet so relatable to you.

Saints weren't dealing with us except for overs (glad we didnt) and Carlton weren't dealing with us at all (they are complete idiots).
As much as marshall would have been useful so we dont have to burn blitz workload wise we need mids way more.
Getting butters or walsh next year is more critical than anything we could have done this year.
Feel a bit for Curnow Marshall and Leek all shite on from a great height no other way to say it realy.Still the first two needn't have signed such long contracts.

The Saints are faking a Destination Club without making it.

They should've been more forthcoming about their true intent (i.e. do not intend to let player go) rather than posture about R1 vs F1 etc.

This has not been a great trade period for Geelong. We flopped badly in the grand final. We needed to add to the squad. Obviously, our ruck/ midfield situation was assessed by Mackie and Scott as not good enough. So we went for Marshall, offered a first round pick which was not unreasonable bearing in mind the full situation with his age, ability and Tom de Koning, it was rejected, we moved to getting an A grade forward in Curnow, we did our best, but it failed.

We waited until the last few minutes to make an increased offer for Marshall, but it was rejected. Mackie got it wrong in assessing that Saint Kilda wanted to get rid of Marshall, and they would fold, despite them saying they wanted to use two rucks.

Brisbane and Gold Coast have moved forward by adding to their squad by draft picks/trade/academy/father and son.

We have added Worpel to an area where we are weak, and he will walk into the team, we got him for no cost at all, yet many posters on this site thought he was not good enough for our team. You wonder why we get accused of being arrogant.

Next year, we will be relying on the natural improvement of our many young players. Will it be good enough? Our main future hope is that butters comes to us which will be difficult, as he will be demanding a huge amount of money that exceeds what our pay scale is based, and the reason we keep so many players. Will he want to play in a midfield with Stanley and Blics as the rucks, as at the moment, they are all we have. Conway is a great hope but no more.
