Zaine should well and truly be forgiven for drowning his sorrows that day, given the way the club treated him.

Was a key player in the 2016 premiership, and under appreciated solid club servant for an extended time afterwards.

It's been a while since he has played at AFL level but if reasonably fit, I'd still select him ahead of all our currently listed KPD's apart from Lobb.

IIRC he was generally dead last in time trials at the Saints

Which does suggest he has had some chronic injury build up which is not surprising for someone who has been in the game that long.

Never that physically gifted (by modern AFL standards) but was blessed with excellent game sense and anticipation.

Buss, JOD, Walker and Co. should do themselves a favour and watch a bunch of old Zaine game tapes, they could learn a lot.

May Vs Lobb 2025 per game averages

Disposals: 17.7 Vs 12.2

Marks: 7.1 Vs 5.4

Effective Disposals 15.2 Vs 9.3

Disposal Efficiency 85.9 Vs 76.2

There's a bit of margin there.

Now I'm not saying that Lobb had a bad season or that May had an awesome season. I really Like Rory Lobb as a player and I wouldn't swap him for May.

I'm just pointing out that May's 2025 stats do not support the argument that he was terrible, or that his performance has fallen off a proverbial cliff.
Almost all of these differences are due to taking 4.9 kick-ins a game, where it's far easier to have an effective kick.

Also left out:

Tackles Lobb 1.6 May 0.8, Pressure Acts Lobb 7.4 May 4.6, Spoils Lobb 6.2 May 5.3, Contested Marks Lobb 1.3 May 1.1

Again shows how poor May performed this year on the actual defensive side of the game because his body has failed him

Jason Johannisen has been delisted by the Western Bulldogs. The only Norm Smith medallist in club history.Writing was on the wall when the Dogs signed Connor Budarick. Still played 16 games this year. Open to playing on elsewhere

Not surprised, but considering he played 16 games this year id have kept him on instead of cutting him in a weak draft. Deserves to stay on ahead of Coffield and Poulter who are both also uncontracted.

For what it’s worth I’ve heard Poulter is expected to be delisted too.

Coffield and Baker expected to stay. But I’m just a punter with a wafer thin contact
The way Baker performed towards the end of season probably deserves a one year extension.

Including JJ's delisting and post trade period, we currently have:

33 seniors (36-38)
6 Cat A rookies (max of 6)
1 Cat B rookie (0-2)

Totalling: 40 players out of a maximum 44 players

Action items: Coffield, Baker(A), Poulter(A) are out of contract
JOD, Baker and Poulter have hit the 3 year maximum of being on the rookie list and also need to be upgraded/delisted/rerookied

Given this I would:
  • Delist Poulter, give Coffield a 1 year deal
  • Upgrade Baker and JOD and draft 3 in the National draft leaving us with 38 seniors
  • Leaves us with 2 remaining Cat (A) rookie spots for DFA/Rookie draft/MSD flexibility

Including JJ's delisting and post trade period, we currently have:

33 seniors (36-38)
5 Cat A rookies (max of 6)
1 Cat B rookie (0-2)

Totalling: 39 players out of a maximum 44 players

By my count we currently have 6 Cat A rookies (Baker, Bramble, Poulter, McNeil, Sellwood, Walker), along with 33 main list + 1 Cat B as you say.

Coffield should be the first one delisted. His body isn't up to it and when he does play, looks slow and terrible.

We're much better off handing that list spot to a Derksen or Frost type on a short term deal. They might not pan out but Coffield sure as hell hasn't.

It might sound harsh but he's not a positive asset to have on the list in any form.

Poor form not to get a send off game for JJ. Should’ve been kept on as a rookie at the very least.

Coff / Poulter should be delisted ahead of him. (Perhaps they have also been cut)
