Pretty strong argument for Filthy to be #1 for the next few years.

You just don't get forwards with his height, strength, agility, skill levels. Generational talent.

And he's still young. Imagine him getting even better.
I have this feeling Filthy will be our best and most important player within 12 months.

Our success will depend on him performance

2024 he was injured/suspended for too many games.
2025 we all know what happened.

He plays lots of games at an AA level in a season, he just needs to... do that for a whole season.
If he does that, there is no way he would not be our, if not the league's top player. He is definitely capable of it.

Essendon or Brad Scott?

He didn’t exactly have a great record with developing draft picks at North Melbourne either.
Both. Essendon's player development failures go back a long way before Scott's appointment, but you rightly point out that Scott has issues in addition to the club's.

I think that traditional inside mid that can't do anything else is dying out - very similar to Berry with us
yep Hobbs similar to Berry, he's not really going to move the dial for Crows (I think Berry is better).
Eagles (with extra rookie spots) or Hawks with Worpel going and not adding anyone could be interested in him.

As far as moving interstate he should fit in well being from the country.

Scott's probably been one of their better player developers

Look how players like Parish, Langford, Francis, McGrath went in their first few years before the Scott era

Out of interest can someone tell me how many list spots are available assuming we get Ah Chee
We currently have 3x senior, 1x Cat A and 1x Cat B rookie positions available.

Assuming we get Ah Chee in the PSD, we will need to move (delist & re-draft) one player from the senior list to the rookie list, in order to achieve the AFL's mandatory 3x ND selections. This would leave us with 3x senior and 1x Cat B rookie position available.

It is unlikely that we will fill our Cat B rookie list. We've added Cotton, but delisted Gallagher. There do not appear to be any other Cat B signings likely this year.

Don't we only have 1 cat B out of 3? Or is there someone I've forgotten??

You are partially correct. We only have 1x Cat B rookie (Cotton), so you are correct there. Clubs are only allowed 2x Cat B rookies in total, which is where you are incorrect.

AFL List sizes are specified in Appendix 1 of the AFL Rules document (attached). You can find them on page 187.

Thank you. It seems that maybe the AFL website is out of date, compared to their actual rules?

The reverse is equally likely to be true. We know for a fact that the AFL has rules which are not specified in the publicly available policy documents. The AFL has a history of failing to keep their publicly available documents up to date - their internal documents (available to the clubs) are well maintained, but they seemingly don't give a flying **** about the general public.

For example, the AFL Rules document specifies the Father/Son rule, but omits to mention the Father/Daughter rule (which we know exists) or the Mother/Son & Mother/Daughter rules which also likely exist (but for which there are currently no eligible offspring).

Then there's the change from Long Term Injury List to the Inactive List. We know that the IA list existed as far back as 2021, because the club stated that Bryce Gibbs was being placed on the Inactive List for the last year of his contract (after he retired). The AFL Rules document was still referring to the LTI list as late as 2023, and only switched to the IA list with the 2024 edition.

AFl cut list sizes during covid cat B list reduced from 3 to 2, but there is talk that there will be an indigenous only rookie allowed to be added, maybe they will finalise this before the draft???

Might do if Geelong want to rookie draft Cyril Rioli, they’ll bring that rule in just before Geelong pick

The draft is now less than a month away (19-20 November). It's unlikely the AFL would make such a significant change this close to the event. It's more likely that this rule change would be introduced in 2026.

Then again, this is the AFL we're talking about, so normally assumed competence standards for management are irrelevant. Anything is possible...

Which option suits Geelong best?

I guess "putting it all together" is one of those skills you need to actually be the best, rather than the most talented that isn't quite the best.

I reckon he will, dude is FIYAH :fireemoji:

I like the idea of the indigenous only rookie.
Good in theory

In principle given the way rookie lists are now used (moving fringe players from snr list) and the fact they can play at any time would we just see clubs do the with already listed indigenous players more so?

Probably needs to be made a rule it can’t be an already listed player moved into it

They changed the minimum first round picks used in so many years, something clubs plan around over several years, half way through trade week. So don’t be surprised if they make the announcement the day of the draft.
