Last nights live show with Dylan Alexander for his mock draft and power rankings, some great discussion.

Xavier Taylor also joined us at the start as a special guest!

Great chat, Mick. Dylan is clearly the best of the youtube pundits.

Great work Michaels

Got to say Robey sounds like he's got his head screwed on. And he hasn't got used to being a big boy, so likely has improvement.

Taylor also sounds like he has a good attitude. Really good to hear you guys talking to the draftees.

feel like of all the clubs with back to back picks we have somehow come out last. not saying thats how it will shake out in 5 years time but our selections there just seem lacklustre given the position were in.

I’m feeling we’ll take Sharp if he’s available. If you look at our draft history we’ve used low picks on midfielders e.g Cotchin, Deledio, Martin etc… Particularly, if there’s not an elite tall at our pick. Then we’ve traded out low picks for established midfielders e.g Prestia, Taranto, Hopper, Sugar Johnson etc… For our next selection, it’s a toss up between Cumming and Robey. A lot will depend on Cousen’s assessment of Cumming in terms of whether he’s best available at that pick. On the surface, I like Cumming because he has a lot of the attributes we are looking for, plus he comes from our old zone.

He actually has all the traits we are looking for

Can kick both sides
below 3.0 secons 20mts
great 2 klms time
Great mark and ferocious
dual position player

It's interesting all of the mock drafts have us taking X Taylor and Grilj - or a mid who isn't Robey or Sharp. I'd say that Robey looks like a lock, if available and the club's in depth assessment confirms what you can see from the outside. And Sharp would be a perfect fit for the guys we drafted last year. But then Cumming also looks nice, if not as well performed.

Anyway, same old same old. The draft gurus seem to reckon we'll not take the obvious picks. Which is either deep knowledge or they are in group think and haven't thought more deeply about where we are at. We need more mids, running players, kicking skills, a ruck, speed, clever small forward, successor to Vlas and mint cans etc. And we have a couple of years to build out the list. So fixing a current list hole is very much secondary to getting the best talent for 5 years form now, when we should start contending.

Michaels It'll be interesting to ask Rhy Geischen about how we manage information on our likely picks. Cause I reckon people are just guessing.

The Grlj ranking is the ranking that is baffling
Just about every mock that has him picked inside the top 4 in the open draft has him coming to Richmond but in Twomeys Ranking he is there at #8

So Richmond take the 8th rated player at #4 ( Because he fits our need for speed) whilst cummings is rated higher and similar speed

Will be interesting to see how Richmond rankings are on the day

Should do a mock draft but Richmond don't take Grlj to see how far he falls.

Agree.

This year it seems that people are just making stuff up for picks 3 & 4. I really like Grilj, a serious player. But pick3 or 4?

Although when you look at the mocks Robey is ranked everywhere from 2 to about 10. But that makes some sense as he is a late bloomer.

Michaels - on your just uploaded new rules etc Tigercast.

Why we would want Sharp: Nothing to do with Hopper, TT etc. In 5 years we'd have Sharp doing the grunt defensive work, and feeding his team mates Smillie, Lalor, Hotton etc. He offers something they don't have and would play a similar role to what Cotch did in our premierships. His skill set is very hard to find - inside mid, defensive monster, good at bringing others in and amazing leadership, and is at his best in big games when things get tough.

With that group we'd have a complete midfield and would just need to build around it with speed and ball skills. Deep leadership and absolutely monster size and loving to go hard.

Sharp is the missing piece in our midfield, structurally --> in 5 years time.

Then we would have the midfield and spine. Building around that requires draft picks + trades and FAs.

If we have a poorly balanced team in 2026, but it will be lovely in 2030, so what? At worst we get a better pick next year. At best Campbell, KMac, MRJ, Hotton add the dynamism we need and we accelerate our build.

Yeah I’m all for a Sharp / Robey combo!

It’s been good to hear we are still very much into him too!

Sharp Robey would be great. Robey, if he is talented as he seems, would make an incredibly multipunch with Lalor, Smillie etc.

It leaves us without that super speed. But we can get that over time.

It'll be interesting to see how it works out. Quite possibly this year will be divisive. Some will love it and some hate it. But we have time to fix any holes.

agree!

On the speed front, next year Armstrong, Daffy, and Leys all have plenty of speed!

the other thing I'd say too, is it was only last year where a lot of people were saying Harvey Langford was way too slow to make it at AFL level, but he has been more than fine.

Not too sure about this but was reading the eagles draft thread last night to see what favorite players they have for this draft. and they are having the exact same debates about Sharp as we are.

basically want him but think #2 is a reach and talking about ways to get him with a later pick and some are hopin he slides to #13 but most accept he will be gone by then.

BUT there was 1 post where the person posted that Sharp did a 20mtr sprint test start of the year or in preseason and was recorded at 2.95 seconds and he is not slow but really doesnt play with pace but more moves the ball quick and doesnt run with the ball and most agree with him.

Nobody has challenged this poster and most accept what he posted to be correct (not sure his track record)
but im sure clubs would have this info if correct which puts a totally different spin on things
