What’s the occasion?

I got bored and took a small holiday 😂

12 months ago I scored myself a ticket to see Oasis on Friday night and over the past few months I've been trying work out the best approach to enjoying the evening

It started as maybe I'll find myself a hotel for the night, then two nights before opting to spend the week in Melbourne

I live 80km down the highway, I spent nearly a decade working up here (until 2018) and still make regular trips for footy, cricket etc but have never just been a tourist like when I visit other places

So this week I'm tourist in Melbourne, and exploring a city a know from a different perspective - the chocolate & cakes are from the hotel, as part of the guest stay

It'll have to wait for later though as I've not long finished a "Melbourne Lanes & Arcades Chocolate & Dessert Walking Tour" - OMG, if anyone is ever in Melbourne I can't recommend this tour highly enough

I booked it this morning (90 minutes before start time) and it's one of the best value tours I've done - $99 with samples, tastings and mini servings across 5 stops, a little survival kit that included water & more chocolate and discounts if you wished to buy more at the various places we stopped

I got to the last stop and couldn't eat anything, including a proper lunch 😂 - even though we made an unofficial stop to start the day at shop in Block Arcade that does 3 cheese toasties which I really wanted to try but knew I wouldn't be able to eat it... Plus I need to save room ahead of a Dumpling Walking Tour tonight

That tour sounds awesome, have you got a link to it?

This is the company - they run two tours, a morning & afternoon tour with the morning one having an extra stop

If you don't like chocolate then it's probably not worth it, but it was fun to walk through some of the arcades and learn a few different things

And I've only got to visit the dentist next week 😂

One of the good things when I'm on holidays is that I tend to do a lot more walking than when I'm at home a I walked 15km plus yesterday and already 6km today, so that's obviously helpful when doing foodie tours

I did one tour yesterday and while it was a good tour I don't think it was value for money - $195 for a coffee & culture tour that's advertised as being 3 hours, but closer to 2 hours with the last period of time being when you stop for lunch the guide bids you farewell

And for that cost we got 1 small coffee, a macaroon and then lunch which was a fancy sandwich & Italian style soda; plus a paper map we could mark out various recommendations on - but the total outlay per guest would be no more than $50, and that's being generous

I found the tour informative and did enjoy seeing a different side to Melbourne, some new laneways and recommendations I wasn't aware of but I don't think it was a $195 value tour. The same company offers a 3hr laneways & arcades tour that also includes a drink (coffee/non-alcoholic) stop & chocolate tasting for $139, which sounds very similar to the tour I did just without the lunch and I did think the included lunch was worth the $50 difference

At $95 I'd recommend it, but not at $195 - it's one of the most expensive tours I've done

This is all great info! 🥰

I’m taking my daughter on a small holiday down to Melbourne in the New Year. She’d love the chocolate tour for sure.

I also want to take her to Queen Victoria markets bc I absolutely love that place and it would blow her mind lol

Woohoo, I found a work around - check out the Queen Victoria Market website as they offer foodie tours, https://qvm.rezdy.com/160733/queen-vic-market-ultimate-foodie-tour

I think the foodie side of things is better than just visiting for their goods as so much of that now days is all just commercialised tourist stuff unfortunately

And DemurePrincess another place to add to your itinerary for when you come to Melbourne

This is The Tea Room 1892 at The Block Arcade - they were formally the Hopetoun Tea Rooms but after a lease dispute they moved elsewhere and the newly name tea rooms are going as strong and as busy as ever

I also believe that nothing's changed in terms of service or food options

I want my daughter to do a golden gaytime cupcake, it’s a caramel mud cupcake with German buttercream with biscuit crumb, she said no.

They don't do takeaways as such - like I don't believe you can just walk up and ask for a slice of X-Cake to take home

But if you start and fail to finish they have doggy bags

I’m ready for bed now. Stupid old age :$
I did way too much with my back yesterday. I put netting over three of my fruit trees and it has rendered me useless today, in so much pain when I stand.

Oh! Don’t you worry! I’ll finish mine, yours and everyone’s around us girlie! 😂

Cake IS Life!!

☹️

I mentioned last week how my back started hurting with no idea how - took about 3 days before it started to feel better where I could from sitting -> standing -> sitting without major discomfort

And thought it was doing better this week, but maybe all the walking I've, plus strange bed & couch hasn't helped as that pain in the small of the back returned last night

I've tried not carrying too much stuff with me this week, but I'm hoping it'll play nice tonight

It just sucks when you hurt

I’ve been out and about doing the cardboard job for businesses around town

I reckon a golden gaytime cupcake might help

Time for the emotional blackmail phase of recovery
