****ing idiot. It’s this sort of behavior that makes it difficult for women to get fair justice for real rape cases.

And one of the major issues is that right up until people found this out, you'd be labelled all sorts of horrible things for questioning whether it was a cut and dried case of rape.

Yeah for sure. Historically it’s a no win situation. The female has to go above and beyond to prove it wasn’t consensual, and the guy has doubt forever added to his character.

What a shit thing to make fake claims about... & should be consequences as not only has Bruhn had his life turned upside down, it does nothing to help real rape victims.

Holy shit, I didn’t realise the AFL suspended him the entire 2025 season based on the allegations. Where do you think this kids mind is at now?

Does the opposite, this case is going to be mentioned every time an allegation is made.

AFL doesn't have much of a case here given Pickett was allowed to play during his case and Balta wasn't sanctioned for an actual conviction.

In a scathing statement issued on Tuesday, Bruhn’s lawyer, Anna Balmer, said he had endured a “nightmare” over the false claims and wanted those responsible for the false allegations held to account.

“Tanner is innocent. He was falsely accused of these crimes,” Ms Balmer said.

“Whilst he is thankful that the court process has vindicated him, he is understandably upset that he had to go through a court process at all, and that it took a year to get here.

“Tanner wants to see those responsible for making these false allegations held to account. We should all hope that Victoria Police properly investigate what appears to be an attempt to pervert the course of justice by at least one, if not two prosecution witnesses.

“The last year of Tanner’s life has been horrible. Tanner is grateful for the support he has received from his family and friends, his football club, AFL Players Association and his manager Paul Connors.

“Tanner wants to put this nightmare behind him and get on with playing football. He is hopeful for the future and looking forward to getting back to doing what he loves.”

AFL slammed for standing down Tanner Bruhn with young Cat desperate to reignite career

The players’ union has slammed the AFL for standing down Geelong’s Tanner Bruhn, who is desperate to reignite his AFL career after working as a farm hand in country Victoria during a year-long court battle.

The AFLPA has now issued a stringing rebuke against the league over the way it has handled his case.

“Tanner was entitled to the presumption of innocence from the outset and throughout,” the Players’ Association statement said.

“It was clear to us that standing Tanner down would be premature and disproportionate.

“The AFL has defended its decision despite not having stood down any other footballers who have recently faced, or are facing, criminal charges.

“The AFL confirms that, following notification in early 2025 of several criminal charges being brought against Geelong Football Club player, Tanner Bruhn, that Mr Bruhn was stood down by the AFL from playing pending the hearing and determination of those charges,” the statement said.

“Mr Bruhn was stood down from playing at any level of Australian Football (including AFL and VFL), which remained in place until the charges were withdrawn, which formally occurred in court today.”
The Players’ Association said it was time to address the AFL’s disciplinary code.

“The Collective Bargaining Agreement requires the AFL and AFLPA to resolve a Code of Conduct including proper processes and a sanctioning framework,” the statement said.

“This unfortunate set of circumstances is further evidence that such a framework is critical for the game. We remain committed to this work in the best interests of the players and Australian football.

“The AFLPA welcomes today’s confirmation that charges against Tanner Bruhn have been dropped.

“The AFLPA has supported Tanner throughout this long and flawed process alongside his manager Paul Connors, his legal team led by Anna Balmer, and the Geelong Football Club, who have all been exemplary in their care for Tanner.”

Who could believe him but from what I could read he blamed her for telling him what to say.
Even if she didn’t she’s just as bad for lying as well.

There is another story in the Hun which has the woman's male friends full statement'where he has admitted telling a shedload of lies, I'll PM it to you. Bruhn and his mate have been put through hell on a pack of lies by the woman and her male friend.
Will they be prosecuted?

They need to be 😡

Did the AFLPA call for Bruhn to be allowed to play prior to today?
The AFL has been slammed by the players’ union for standing down Geelong Cats midfielder Tanner Bruhn for the whole of the 2025 season.
After it emerged on Tuesday that a key witness lied to police when he claimed that Bruhn had sexually assaulted a woman, the AFL Players’ Association described the call to sideline him as “disproportionate” and “premature” in the circumstances.

The AFLPA had unsuccessfully lobbied the AFL to waive the stand down order earlier in the year.

Bruhn’s legal team including prominent KC Dermott Dann are also assessing whether to take further action over the false allegations through the courts.

He had to be stood down facing rape charges, there is no way he could have taken the field after it got out. Players union is stupid for even suggesting otherwise.

So what’s the solution? Bad luck and see you next year? I get the AFL was put in a position where they had to act. Imagine if they did nothing and he was found guilty. Those responsible for the lies need to be prosecuted or sued or something, because the whole bloody thing is wrong

Suppression order would have made it very difficult. Anything said publicly that ultimately resulted in identifying him as the alleged rapist would have breached the order and resulted in action being taken against the AFLPA. They had no choice but to remain silent.

Publicly I mean

The AFL is forced into a no win situation really. If they let him play and he is found guilty, they would be absolutely smashed. We see with Rankine and Bailey Smith that the AFL only give a crap about their PR image. Player welfare is a very distant second, in fact id say it doesnt crack the top 100 AFL priorities in a pr situation.

No fault, stand down policy, which is what happened.

If they didn't, it would have been media fodder every day, especially after another weekend where he was booed every time he went for the ball and god help us if someone took a swing at him if he got to close to the crowd. The AFL maade the right call in a tough situation, it was clearly not sustainable to leave him on the field after he was charged by police and had a court date.

Yeah, there needs to be serious consequences for the accuser and friends
