Earlier in the year they petitioned the AFL to be able to register him as an NGA eligible player and they've been working with him for a couple of years - it's those connections which is why they're still being heavily linked with picking him up in the draft

The ESPN Draft power rankings from 2 days ago is the first time I've seen Greeves drop below the top 20 with him "falling" to 23 - every other one I've read over recent times still has him top 15/16, with Hawthorn looking to take the youngster that tried to register as an NGA


I know some here don't rate him, but he's definitely still rated in the draft rankings

Yes and no. We do need a bigger bodied clearance mid but I dont think greeves is the right player.

We may not.
We might take live picks at 19 and 40 and roll the dice that no one bids on mellor in the ND and we can preselect him as a cat b rookie (this is a gamble as saints learnt with Hoffman but there might only be 55 picks this year so he might get through).

Lack of draft night invite indicates he wont go top 10 but Hawthorn might take him at 22 (will be later after bids).

It's definitely possible as that would allow us to take a pick at 40 and still have a list spot if mellor gets say a bid at 50.
But the problem us finding a buyer no one wants to trade out of 2026 r1. Our best hope might be st kilda trying to jump on someone like philipou.

His problem is that he was absolutely no weapons. He'll be a star at lower level as he has a decent foot IQ and moves like a mature player through congestition, but it very easy to see why non-one is that intrested. As everyone gets bigger faster he genereates little advantage

Whilst it's an unexciting thing on the night, I do think long-term that could be the best play.

At the very least, it would ramp up hopes of having Butters in our sights.

If there's nothing we rate at our R1 selection... I'm totally fine moving it into next year, even though it probably won't be for an F1 pick in return.

I agree... Lock and load him as a team's quarterback type for a long time.

That leg of his will create plenty of scoring chains from nothing.

Mellor is the most under rated player in this draft class. Nairn is being talked about as a top 10 pick. Very similar player. Robey has a much higher ceiling and rapid rate of improvement but statistically is not much better (still think he is the best player in the draft though). Mellor has stepped up at every level. Really hope we grab him with our 2nd pick

He could because of bids and sliders. I doubt he goes top 10 and picks 15 17 and 18 will disappear. I doubt Carlton take him (if they even have 11) as they need speed. If he gets past gws he could get all the way to us as adelaide need mids. Dogs at 14 might be the only threat but they have other needs.
