Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Yep, and Port finish bottom 3 next year and they get a top 4 pick back for FA compo and grab Butters as a free agent🤤
Port would get more than a top 4 pick for Butters on the open market

Is a top 4 pick worse than say picks 12/15 and 20. Doubt it, 3 firsts instead of 1 but I would argue I’d go for the top 4 pick everyday of the week.

And now clubs can trade picks 2 years in advance I highly doubt you’ll see 3 firsts from within that year being traded to a single club. Would be 2 in 26 and another in 27 at best

The issue if they force a trade for Butters vs accept a top 4 compo pick, is the opposition club may simply not be able to get hands on a pick that high. No doubt they would still get multiple 1sts but 2027 1sts arent worth much and you'd probably take one top 4 pick over a bunch of later 2026 1sts.

A top four pick for port will be impirtant as they will be required to match Cochrane with two picks inside 10 I reckon.

Lose butters, gain Cochrane, extra picks and cash to spend on a KP player that’s a free agent.

I also would argue our salary cap is in amazing shape for a free agent. Not sure it could be matched by port. Curnow McGovern saad TDK Williams and JSOS money will all be in the rear vision mirror.

I just hope we don’t combine all of that money and throw it at Butters. :p

Port were in a position to offer NWM plenty and still able to offer up a mega offer to ZB.

Port will easily be able to match and also we’d be silly to be getting into overpaying a single player a league-leading salary.

I come in peace and feel free to dismiss this but I can tell you from a very solid source that Ben King will be at Carlton in 2027. It is why we would not trade Walter and why you let Charlie go (in part). You won’t get Humphrey or anyone else but King is going back to VIC and won’t play with Max

thanks for that, Ben King will now be a far better player on this board than he was 15 minutes ago.

More and more discussion regarding our picks getting traded. Any ITKs hearing anything about the pick situation?

I'm umming and aahing about posting this one. What do you reckon ferrisb?

I agree it seems like we're loading up for Walker+ something else next year. But everyone seems very focused on Butters when King is the more logical target... or if not Jed Walter.

No way GC can match as they've now maxed out their cap on Petracca. Port can match pretty much any bid.

If we could effectively swap Curnow for King plus Hayward & 3 first rounders it would be an absolute masterstroke.

Yep King is the logical FA target. If we could get him as a FA we would have moved Curnow to King but gained first round selections and Hayward. I think that's the smarter play than chasing Butters (and coughing up huge trade currency) when we are adding Jagga and Walker to the midfield already. Like you say it would be a masterstroke. Let's Harry roam higher up the ground and King stays closer to goal. Surround them with mobile movers like Hayward, Moir, Ainsworth etc and it looks a nice mix. 100% agree King should be the target.

Lets us focus at the draft next year more on needs too if we grab another pick outside Walker. With Dean and HOF as key position defenders we would be in a good position. Maybe we'd target a young KPF to develop or maybe more outside run. But bottom line is getting King as a FA would improve our lineup and our flexibility at the draft.
