Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

We definitely need another key forward target and it will come down to who's available as a free agent.
King is 25 now and about to hit his prime in a strong Gold Coast team.

Lots can change in 12 months though.

Do we? McKay, HOK, HOF supported by Young, Kemp & Hayward

We will have picks and money next year. Is King the answer? Is there a Mihocek type that would be cheaper and just as effective? Will we be able to draft a KPF next year?

Issue is with players like King you have to overpay to get them and they have 4-5 years left at their peak? It's a big gamble that rarely works

I hope we are smarter now

Very funny to see a key forward kick 71 goals this year and say he's no good.

Who said he's no good?

and just for a bit of perspective his BEST goal tally last season against a Top 8 side was TWO goals.

He had bags of 7, 6, 5, 5 and 5 against Essendon, Carlton, Sydney, North and WCE which were his best

Instead of interpreting it as "he's no good", look at it this way, we might be better off spending our resources chasing a different player...

I personally want us to move away from big key forward targets because the game has evolved and it's seen time and time again they rarely step up in big games.

We (imo) should be focusing on building a dynamic forward line with med fwds that can rotate in the middle and damaging smalls with x factor. Really only need a couple of talls that can compete and bring the ball to ground.

Look at the ladies team for example.
Have made calls and changed up the mix of the team. Now quickly seeing the fruits of it.
Hopefully(looks like) the men’s team is realising what now needs to be changed to suit the modern game as well.
I think the trade period this year has shown where now on a different path and imo the right path to suit modern dynamic footy.

I get what you're saying, but we seem to do these mental gymnastics with oppo players. Charlie always loaded up against the minnows as well.

100% agree that a key forward shouldn't be a priority, but King is a gun.

Our two first round picks next year will be used to get Walker.

Without a second or third round picks in the 2026 draft (at this stage) it makes finding a key position forward more difficult through the draft. Which is why we should've looked at Archer May and taken an extra pick in the mid season draft.

100%. I am also over paying talented players that really haven't stepped up big money. They are also mostly past 26 and have 4-5 years at most at the top. Makes no sense to me

Draft talent and then recruit well to fill gaps. The best sides have been able to get very good players cheap or if they do pay up the player is a genuine gun (ie Cameron or Neale) with still 6 plus years ahead of them

We don't know yet and we have 2 x 2027 first round picks as well. There could be swaps, trades etc. Last two years have proved that for us

Mckay is 28 in December he is now our only genuine key forward on the list, HOK is developing still believe he is more ruck/forward than a natural forward, Kemp had a couple of games but is unproven, Young is emergency back up.

We definitely need to draft a young developing key forward.

Agree, chances of us holding 2027 1st round picks are very low, we will be trying to maximize these next year in 2026. As all clubs will with Tassy entering the 2027 draft.
*Although Tassy will need to use half of their first round hand for trading in established players

*if Tassie actually enters the competition. Wonder if the afl will stand by what they’ve been saying in no stadium no team.
The stadium has passed lower house in parliament but needs to pass the final vote in the upper house on December 4

Remind me of who the Lions key forward targets are again???

Give we 2x small forwards any day in front of another beam pole!

Throw in Moir plays more like a leading forward.

McKay, Hayward, Kemp & Moir give us plenty of Aerial options

Yep. We've given the old "contested beasts and twin towers" formula enough of a look. It doesn't work anymore.

If Dean can get into the HB line in 2026 and McGovern plays for his career, our forward line will be very exciting.

Moir and Kemp rotating through CHF will completely change our forward line.

If Dean isn't ready, I expect Kemp to play in defence.

My 2 cents.

Modern game has changed so much. Now about controlling football, positioning etc

Lions didn't have gun forward. Hawks relied more on Gunston. Pies won with Mihocek and a mobile set up. Adelaide I thought struggled in big games being so tall

Need to win and control ball and use it. Structure and team play is vital

He looked well and truly off the pace at open training on Friday.

He was running but at a more restricted level and looks miles off the rest for now.

I posted this a while ago. Kemp is a long way from playing. Won't do close to full pre season after missing a year. If he is back playing and near his best by mid year it would be a miracle

It needs to be the right one. Case in point Lemmey. We drafted him because we needed a developing key forward and its ended up being pointless.

Supporters carried on for years we needed a developing KPD. We didnt draft one but now in the space of 2 drafts we have HOF and Dean.

Need to wait for things to line up. Forcing it just wastes picks and list spots. If we need more depth now grab a mature age guy that can 100% do that job.

Watching the AFLW team and seeing them make quick decisions and hit short passes by foot (handballing is still 50/50 for some reason) which means the ball goes from defence to attack very quickly really shows up the men.

The Irish women (across the league) are super impressive

Concurs with my gut feel over the trade period that given different injury circumstances that Kemp would have been out the door to possibly St. Kilda as well but had no choice but to stay (personal opinion only).

I recall that Tassie having a 3 year window to use their amount of picks for trading players…
Again one of the more ridiculous things the afl has implemented, should be no set number on how many Tassie should have to use…
