In all seriousness, if we pick Thredgold I think it's more likely we just don't rate anybody in his this draft as first round value.

There's a few surprises in that mock, and if CT is on the money, it again suggests clubs' boards are miles different to public perception after the first 10 picks or so.

We've probably had better lists, but this is likely the most balanced we've been age profile wise in well over a decade for talent - especially in defence.

To pick a key defender, two years after we picked another one who looks like he'll end up a multitple time AA would be really weird. It's a position that's taboo to take early anyway.

Unless of course if you don't rate much else available, then you take the guy you think can actually play at AFL level. That's the most important thing here.

Twomey has Carl swapping pick 11 with Nth for 25 plus an F2. Seems like a bargain for Nth. Surely we could offer 19 plus an F2 which would be a better offer albeit Nth’s F2 will be higher than ours.

Seems a shame to have wasted a 3rd round pick that will come up to 50 odd. Surely we could have bundled it up to upgrade a spot or two or better yet trade it out to next year like some other clubs did.

I feel we are pretty poor in this area compared to other clubs. Probably because our picks are usually obscure (with good results) so it doesn’t matter as much. Guys we like in the 3rd round would be there in a rookie draft.

Cal has our first pick at 23. Same as Fox.

I wonder how far up that drags out pick 40. After our 1st pick Gold Coast have 4 picks, Ess 2, Syd 2 North 1 and Brisbane one that should all be eaten up or traded.

Cal has the current WB pick at 33 coming in to pick 30 which would make our pick 35

So 23 & 35. That seem right?

It's the last year that you can use points from anywhere.
The value is in the F2 for walker.

Cal also only has 10 round 2 picks being used. I wouldn't worry about 40.

Half the best players this year are academy ones anyway (and I think only addinsall and maybe Carmichael are really gettable) so the rest isnt the best lot of players (outside of Lindsay which would be a good result).

North will be bottom 4 next year we wont so our f2 isnt worth anywhere near as much.
19 does nothing useful for Carlton compared to 25 as either gets swallowed by the bid.

Our r3 is one of the last picks in rhe draft that will be used so there wasn't really any interest in it.

Word is there's only going to be like 55 picks in this draft.

Our pick 50 would be useless in a trade, we wouldn't even get the equivalent selection next year if we tried.

And as a selection, most of the kids picked late this year would be rookie picks in a better draft.
