Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Surely it's a case of what goes around comes around with this bidding strategy.

Could just be the case of "this is the new reality with the draft index".

Early-ish bidding to force a club to overpay a bit was less relevant when the draft points ran out to Pick 70 or whatever it was.

Now that the points are heavily concentrated inside what has effectively become the first two rounds (with R2 running to Pick 40+), it's harder for clubs to acquire point-relevant picks, and those picks are by and large positioned in a way that clubs will benefit a lot more by forcing them all to be used on bid matching.

Sucks for us that it's happening just as we get a highly rated father/son and NGA pairing, and another even higher-rated father/son next year - but it's also having the intended effect on other clubs too. GC may need to pass on matching Addinsall after matching Uwland and Patterson - they (and other northern clubs) are going to need to be more discerning over which players they prioritise. Same issue we face next year with Walker, Port will face with Cochrane, and a year later Essendon will face with Bewick.

The change needed to happen for the draft to retain some level of integrity with the increasingly high numbers of club-affiliated players.

Says a "director of coaching style role" in the Cleary article. Also, mentioned it is a part-time role.

At least it’s not one of those weird “via zoom” type roles. :p

Assuming this is to pick up some of whatever "Head of Coaching Performance and Innovation Aaron Greaves" was doing last season.

Makes sense I guess, if you want a bloke whose remit is to improve coaching performance and innovation, it probably needs to be someone with a resume that extends beyond "head of player development" and "umpires coach".
