That’s steep, and the helping hawthorn out pisses me off 😂

But the picks are all a bit meaningless- it’s the players you bring in that that matter, even if when picked the perception maybe that you paid a high price or odd trades etc
Yeah I hate it too but I have just decided to be wilfully ignorant given I think Lindsay was the last available of the second tier players. Sometimes you just got to do it, and if it was an F3 then no one would bat an eye.

Do we reckon the number of people complaining about the system is more or less than the number of people who laughed or complained about Andrew Bassat being the only one brave enough to call the AFL out?

‘Brave’. In that he waited until a northern club received a father son to have a whinge? Silent when all of the VFL clubs were benefitting.

Brave Fred Bassat.

No- it showed you don’t know how bid

You could’ve had your GC player if you had drained GC of points with an early bid for patterson

Instead you bid on Dean which meant we had to give up our two firsts- which is fine for a pick 3.

But don’t whinge about the matching still needing work because WCE stuffed their strategy. Your f2 to come up one spot? Sheesh- we would’ve given you 9 for your 13 and f2.
Got nothing to do with not getting Addinsall. Gild coast traded out two top ten picks to bring in Petracca, and yet were still able to match four first round bids, two of which were in the top 5. Clearly doesn't work.

They did work themselves into that position to still retain multiple first round picks.

Reckon that’s a legacy of afl support through additional draft picks

Yeah, they retained picks 15 and 18, iirc. And then got picks 2, 5, 17, and 18. That shit ain't right.
Well we lost our two firsts for a pick 3

Not that I’m complaining as ultimately if we wnat to have f/S then it needs to be on a sustainable basis which means it can be a free kick for the club with the F/S

Anyway, you got Lindsay and he is a good player

Can we match a bid and juat go into deficit post our next pick, pick 36 (which is last of the 2nd round)

We wont have a pick inside 54 if a bid comes for HEA, can we just sit and cop the deficit to our F4, wiping that out

Picks after 40 can be automatically matched with your next pick

edit: unless they've changed this with the new index but I haven't read that anywhere

Cant go into deficit post pick 40+ bid?
Looks like it was updated

Bidding system from 2025:
A 10% discount will be applied on all bids from selection 1 to 18 followed by an 84-point deduction (being 10% of selection 18) for all bids from selection 19 to 36.

Matching a bid - first round: Matched using equivalent DVI points.

Matching a bid - after first-round:

Matched using equivalent DVI points up to selection 36.

Match with next selection from selection 37.

Restriction on Northern Academies: There will be no restrictions based on ladder finishing position for Northern Academy clubs.

Pick 37 onwards you just use your next pick, so yeah, no deficit

Once 37 rolls around you don't even need to worry about points

So lemmy get this straight WC essentially traded a 2nd round pick (courtesy of Liam Ryan)in a much stronger draft and p18 for pick 17!?

-to move up one spot and grab the player they were pretty much going to get at 18 anyway??

Wow at this rate eagles fans be hoping for Brady Rawlings to come back

I cannot believe these 2 clubs Carlton & West Coast could not work out a better deal that could have worked out in both their benefits.

During the Chesser deal why couldnt they have done a deal that ensured the eagles get pick #9 and instead of bidding on Dean they could have bided on patterson which would of got them addinsall or they could have just drafted Sharp.
Would have been a win / win

carlton knew they would need to trade out
eagles wanted to upgrade #13

Just trade Chesser + #13 for #9 +#30 something and a wink wink

Yeah it's mind boggling. Feels like either we didn't think to try, or we did but carlton decided we were bluffing with threats of bidding on Dean.

Quite baffling how they're so continously shit after 20 years of 'A+ grade' trade and draft periods

What do those campaigners do on the training track?
Blame Dodoro bloke was a fraud and couldn't id talent for shit.

Meanwhile Matt Rosa has only been in the job for 2 years and has already achieved way more in list building then Dodoro has in 20 plus years.

See this is whats great about the Matty/Blair relationship - They always get it done
Pick #38 for young , No problem gets done and becomes the 24th available player in the open pool

Win/Win/Win

You guys did well with the Lions and should have had the agreement with the blues
just silly

Actually, we are crippling the NRL by ensuring all this elite talent doesn’t go their way.

All four of those boys would have been playing League if it wasn’t for the academy system.

When we start recruiting en masse from the Pacific Islands, then you can say the above.

Not sure why you'd want that to happen anyway, the NRL, male and female versions are pretty awesome.

We were shit because Dodoro believed Shiel, Merrett, Parish and McGrath is a premiership midfield against big bodies.

He picked McGrath over McCluggage! Even took Tsatas, a guy who cannot kick and cannot wear physical contact as an inside mid at 5 over Bailey Humphrey.

Early days but Rosa's drafting seems much better. Drafting more competitors in Caddy, Roberts, Kako, Clarke and now Robey and Sharp. Actual big bodied mids.

Not sure about the Farrow pick over Xavier Taylor but he's an outside leaning players with a good kick. We need more run and carry in the side and he certainly provides that so he fits a need.

Also worth considering Weddle and Taylor play the same HB position in a side.

If we’re targeting Weddle doesn’t make sense to draft a kid high who plays that spot. Waste of resources
