Gold Coast have to be about to have a very successful decade with all these top end kids they are bringing in over the last couple of years.
Need to manage salary cap, and they are already paying overs for above average players.

Excited to see who else we draft tomorrow nightSo we currently have picks 42, 43, 50 and tomorrow night.
No one seems to know for certain, but there's a good mix of Academy & open pool players that we've been linked to for our other 2 or 3 picks. Prindable has been linked to us, Geelong & Collingwood while Waller has interest in the Rookie Draft, & Bridge is our other academy product. Open pool players that we've been linked to include Riley Onley, Talor Byrne, Toby Whan. Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier, Oskar Ainsworth, and Noah Roberts-ThomsonWhat are we actually doing tomorrow night

I didn’t understand that trade 17 and 23 would have matched the bidSo we traded back 5 picks for a future third, then the Hawks traded back that pick 1 selection for a future 2nd?
Big mistake
We had to trade it before the bid on Annable. So we traded back 5 picks for a future third, then the Hawks traded back that pick 1 selection for a future 2nd?

Hawks were able to ask for “overs”, because teams wanted to trade up for specific players.

Tylah Williams, one of their NGA products, was rumoured to get bid on tonight by a team.Have west coast got an NGA vaguely in that draft range? Hawks might have threatened to bid, wiping out west coasts following pick anyway. F2 the price for no bid and ensuring they got to take an additional first round pick this year.

Option not there for us as we were losing that pick anyway.
Sorry but the trade makes no sense we traded with hawthorn for a pick we won’t use next year that has no points attached to itWe had to trade it before the bid on Annable.

So Essendon's next pick is 36, so they must not rate Sweid as highly. and have 10 more kids on their draft list they rate higher.
At this stage, it’s a third round pick worth points. We don’t where it will end up next year, yet.Sorry but the trade makes no sense we traded with hawthorn for a pick we won’t use next year that has no points attached to it
It’s worth what the market was willing to pay. That doesn't mean the pick was worth less just because we couldn't use it as leverage
Exactly. The options were letting points go to waste or getting something trivial. Teams who were keen and willing to pay to trade up went for the picks above ours. It’s worth what the market was willing to pay.
If there was a better offer on the table, we’d have taken that.
I think it's more about other clubs being stupid and not making us a better offer to trade up, then having to pay Hawthorn overs to do it later. That isn't something we can control. So weve given the Hawks a leg up for little in return. Sounds good
I'm guessing there's someone they want next year and don't want to go into deficit by matching a bid on Sweid that high?So Essendon's next pick is 36, so they must not rate Sweid as highly. and have 10 more kids on their draft list they rate higher.
They're not charities, they won't bother training up players for other clubs, even though they have the money to do so, especially West Coast. Although, if they did start doing this successfully, they would make a case to eliminate the academy system altogether.Victoria, SA and Qld players mostly drafted in the first round. WA seems to have been falling way behind for top end talent for awhile.
You would think that WCE and Freo (maybe the WAFL) could just start a junior elite training program or programs, especially if it was outside of the soft cap. Sure they might not get the benefits short term but it would be an overall benefit in the long term.

That and it comes off the first round pick, so I don't think they won't that heading backwards.I'm guessing there's someone they want next year and don't want to go into deficit by matching a bid on Sweid that high?
The Hawks trade backs were about teams knowing exactly at those picks who were available and willing to trade up for a specific player.I think it's more about other clubs being stupid and not making us a better offer to trade up, then having to pay Hawthorn overs to do it later.
