197cm key forward

From Rookie Me: https://central.rookieme.com/afl/player/archie-ludowyke/

SNAPSHOT: “An athletic, high-marking tall forward capable of soaring for speccies and kicking big bags of goals.”
STRENGTHS:

  • Aerial ability
  • Leading patterns
  • Mobility
  • Scoreboard impact
  • Upside
  • Vertical leap

IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Consistency
  • Strength

DRAFT RANGE: 15-25

SUMMARY:

Recruiters would have loved to seen a greater sample size from Ludowyke, whose upside put him firmly in top 15 contention earlier this year. The National Championships are always a key litmus test and that’s where Ludowyke’s year ended, leaving a few questions yet to be answered. Still, he competed well against senior opposition for the AFL Academy and has an athletic profile which suits modern day key forward archetypes. He is athletic, hits up at the ball nicely, and can produce highlight reel moments. There aren’t many genuine key position players knocking about the first round range, so that may boost Ludowyke’s value and he should be able to hit the ground running post-injury.

That is the first time I have actually gotten emotional seeing a kid drafted. Left to go upstairs in tears and couldn’t watch anymore, then hears his family and friends scream downstairs and came back down still in tears seeing his name was called out…

It obviously means the world to this kid, and I really am barracking for him after seeing that.

Think you have a ripping young man right here that will give his all

He might be a good player in time it’s just right now I’m not too overly enamoured with the pick for where the club is currently at.

Not that it matters too much given he’s probably number 40+ on the list of likelihood to play but the club is at the stage where it needs the most players ready and available to call on as it needs to perform for the right now, so waiting 3+ years for beanpole 195cm+ key position talls to mature their bodies before they are ready to get near an AFL level is a little flattening for the now.

We drafted 3 years ago for the here and now.

Insane to me that he slid this far.

A few videos to watch:

Honestly, the fact there is a diving smother in the first video really does make me curious on Ludowkye as a footballer. That's not something you see too many key forwards attempt, let alone succeed at.

Kid might just have the right temperament to make it, or at least the right temperament to make a switch to KPD if KPF doesn't work out.

No player taken 50+ is going to make our team in 2026
