of this list go get 1 of Butters, zac bailey, pat voss, ben king, mitch lewis

mcinerny on a wing handy also opposite wing to stephens

He looks great but our biggest hole is backline.
Look it is, but half the reason is that it flies back there so quickly. We desperately need more pressure both around the ball carrier and up forward as well as just pure scoreboard pressure to capitalise on at times our absolute midfield dominance. As much as we have huge question marks down back I reckon the best backline in the league would have some players looking very average if they were in our team.

I was first on Mcinerney, you can't have him as one of your obsessions.

With Dovastan added to the roster (which surely no one here could be upset with), we're suddenly very stacked at small/medium forward.

Pick three~ of the below list to keep and play regularly in season 2026. The rest are going to be spending a lot of time in the VFL;
  • Paul Curtis
  • Cam Zurhaar
  • Jacob Konstanty
  • Charlie Spargo
  • Zac Banch
  • Cooper Harvey
  • Robert Hansen Jr
  • River Stevens
  • LACHIE DOVASTAN
Yeah it's a lot. My question is who of these guys can play wing/HB/midfield as we don't have a heap of depth there. Harvey and RHJ have with limited success. Spargo?

Stacked is a matter of perspective.

River Stevens, Cooper Harvey and Hansen Jr are not AFL footballers at this point, so you can disregard them automatically.

Zurhaar and Curtis really aren’t traditional small forwards.

Spargo, Konstanty and Banch are D grade small forwards - at this stage.

The counter argument is we don’t have an AFL quality small forward on the list. Hence taking LD.

Gee, when we signed & re-signed the above players, there was glowing praise of them on here. Something isn't adding up.

I am not sure that is all that accurate.

Curtis yes.

Zurhaar sure.

the rest have absolutely all had people questioning them.

Someone like Spargo was absolutely lambasted.

Fair call. But we need a solid back or two. Can't argue with that. I get your point.

FWIW I quite like Charlie…if he can stay fit. He isn’t a classic SF as he tends to do most of his best work outside 50. He might be bench rotation or he might have a deeper than traditional role against certain teams. Given how much talk there is here about us butchering the football it isn’t impossible he carves out an important role because he is an accurate kick.

Honestly reckon we will be churning a lot of players next year. Could be high as 12.
You'd think Stevens, Harvey, RHJ all gone which will leave JK, Banch, Spargo, Dovaston and Mikunda as our small forward fleet and balance that part of the list. You'd have to say that group seems a big upgrade in athleticism and skill level. CCJ out for McCartney with should be a big upgrade. Who else is out of contract?

Bit early to be predicting players careers now.

He looks great but our biggest hole is backline.
We played all of last season without Archer and Goater*(hopefully this O/S Clinic helps obvio)

Pinky...Hardeman was our 2nd best "New Player" and was real good, I thought.

We have Dawson too.

I agree it needs work, but we have the players we need, if, they can remain injury free.

Edit: (not that it represents anything to hang my hat on), but the club appears to be backing in its previous Backline Selections too!

This is some crazy analysis.

You'd re-sign Banch over Duursma, really!? Because he makes it to training on-time in full uniform? Why? It can't be based on Football abilities.

What has Banch done that Harvey hasn't? Except kick goals...? Frightening analysis. Can you please PM me if you ever manage to buy a property and wish to sell. I'm in.

In the history of AFL list management has there ever been a list so unevenly weighted/skewed toward small and mid sized small/half forwards?

It is not an analysis, just a guess as to what I think might happen with the players who are out of contract post the 2026 season. How about you post your predictions and see who manages to get closer to the pin. Hopefully Duursma has a breakout season and he signs up long term. But he arguably the hardest to project, hense the question mark.

I think six of them will be gone at the end of 2026 so maybe it's attempting to get ahead of that.
