I think it was Peter McKenna who in commentary, would always misdescribe players as being laconic. I think all the confusion comes from him.

Overall, i would have expected the crowd numbers to have increased for AFLW over the years.
They have stagnated since admission prices were introduced. They need to claw those initial numbers back.
It is what it is, so the AFLW will push on

BHA is holding its own against Ikon Park (the home of AFLW footy) and is probably doing better.
Especially considering BHA is located in a different city to Brisbane.

Ikon Park also hosts the most finals, so better crowds would be expected for those games.
But they only got 5,645 for two Melbourne clubs SF Hawks v Carlton
For season 2025 including next week's GF it will be 7 finals at Ikon Park to 1 at BHA.

BHA is holding its own against Ikon Park (the home of AFLW footy) and is probably doing better.
Especially considering BHA is located in a different city to Brisbane.

Brisbane at BHA, Swans at Henson Park, and the Dogs at Whitten should be the benchmark of how to grow attendance. Clubs need to invest in high quality match day experiences at accessible venues watching good footy. Which is a wider issue because certain clubs don't care about their W teams as much as they should.

3+ seasons ago it was just rolling mauls and no one could move the ball.

It stands to reason that total attendances have grown as you increase teams from 8 all the way to 18

However, the average crowd attendance over recent years has hardly moved.
AFLW expanded to 18 teams in the 2022b season which did increase the average by 994.
Then only increasing by just 35 people (2022b-2023) and 252 the year after (2023-2024).
Also, those increases are off a low base to start with.

Membership prices also come into calculations regarding attendances, and they vary a fair bit depending on the club.
I think the Lions administration have considered this when setting prices for 2026.
They would rather retain but preferably increase membership numbers by dropping the "addon" price from $60 (i think) to just $20.
Rather than going down the usual route and charge around $60-$82 for the "addon".

I think this is a great move by the Lions. People are looking at ways to cut yearly expenses, and this move may stop that urge by members to drop the AFLW "addon" at the usual higher price.
Also, other members that have not considered an AFLW "addon" before, may very well do so for just $20.

In reality for season 2026 it is only $20 instead of $82 going on the below listed prices.
Those prices would still be cheaper than paying for each individual game.

We'd looked at being GWS AFLW members but given the constant two for one offers, free kids, and other promos we're better off buying tickets as we go.

Except I think we'd go to more as members to avoid "wasting" it. It's an odd dilemma - the memberships probably need to be cheaper given how cheap admission is.

Yeah well if I'm being honest.
I tuned into a couple of our girls games this year and it was the same, turnover city due to the footy being too hot, and the worst of all a lack of the Umps calling tackles etc.
It's too defensive , or simply teams are better or more focussed at attacking the ball or man than using it.
I used to watch every game , but sometimes it is just like under 10's .
The game on Saturday was great watching, so maybe if the season was longer the quality would rise.

Needs to improve so the level is near Saturday's quality , then people will watch.
Again the Umps on Saturday were pathetic.
Blow the whislte please.
It makes the game so so sloppy.
Just my honest opinion.
Also maybe a solution to congestion or too many players on ball is to make 3 players stay forward and 3 back at all times.
Draw a line across the middle.
We used to play quarter field, then you had your midfielders who could follow , that worked well back in the day.

That's huge for them. With a great crop of draftees this year and in the last few years, they've got a good young core group to build their list around.
