2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

That was me...

It's amazing work by the LM Team to get such an upgrade in quality.
The only immediate downgrades being the lose of the aging Webster and Steele for the 2 draftees, 4 of the other swaps are massive immediate wins.

Heath upgraded to TDK - massive upgrade
Cordy upgraded to Silvagni - massive upgrade
Jones upgraded to Flanders - huge upgrade
Schoenmaker upgraded to Ryan - massive upgrade

McLennan for McDonald - quality like for like - potential upgraded
Boyd for the SSP Train on player. - Upgrade

Webster for Fincher - short term lose hopefully long term gain.
Steele for Banfield - short term lose hopefully long term gain.

I tend to look at it as Flanders to replace Steele, and the likes of Garcia, Windhager, Phillipou, Boxhall to improve enough to more than replace Jones.

It's funny how one game can change our perspective on a player. I thought Darcy Wilson was having a pretty disappointing season until that last game.

Seemed braver and put more thought into his disposal after a little bit of time in the VFL. From that one game he's become our most important re-signing

Can't really remember a 2nd year player kicking 5 from a wing or even playing onball.

Judd kicked 5 in his first or second year from memory.

Wouldn't be many others.

In order to assess whether we have improved you need to look at who comes into our First team and who goes out.
We didn't bring in JSOS to replace a break glass in case of emergency player like Cordy.
JSOS is probably replacing Caminiti in our back six which given his injury record is probably 50% of games for a reasonable improvement.
Ryan replaces probably Butler which is an improvement on attack but weakens our forward defensive structure.
Flanders is a good step up over an aging Steele.
TDK is the most interesting one as it should probably be thought of as TDK ruck and Marshall resting forward replacing Marshall and Keeler respectively. So is TDK better in the ruck and around the ground than Marshall, debatable. Is Marshall a better stay at home forward than Keeler also debatable.
If King is fit that is definately an improvement but we already had him.
So are those changes enough to improve us, yes, but enough to put us into contention, I don't see it.

Oh but don’t forget….he was so pissed off at Ross he was going to leave…🙄

Or Ryan can play high half forward to free up Hall to play on ball. Still play Higgins and Butler as smalls.

I sincerely hope this doesn't come across the wrong way, but the Mornington Peninsula is the probably most 'white' area in Victoria. Most immigrants to the area still come from the UK, or at the very least Europe which isn't eligible either.

Obviously this is a gross generalisation, but having lived on the Peninsula all my life - I'd suggest there would be many more candidates in other areas.

When Geelong last year were touted to take Doddy ahead of us but instead surprisingly took another ruckman I can’t remember his name
Has he played firsts? Don’t think so but has anyone kept an eye on him, did we win that pick????
If Dodson plays well this year he will be getting a run in the seniors , you can't expect TDK and Marshall to go the whole season without getting a injury / rested or suspension and Marshall will know doubt be playing mostly forward.

Greeks, ltalians & Maltese's are prevelant down there too.
Keep to themselves moreso.
My childhood Greek & Italian friends, their families often had holiday houses there.
My brothers ex-wife was Maltese & l spent many a Christmas at her parents house there too

Toot & Rye is full of Greeks, wonderful people, always guaranteed a big basket of veg and homemade Rakia. They tend to retire down there, along with everyone else. There's always been a small but strong Italian local population. It's good to get in with them...they know all the secret fishing spots.

I have lived on the Peninsula for 31 years and agree with what is being said.

Would add though that the population mix over the last couple of years has began to change and starting to become more multi cultural.

A bigger African contingent but more noticeable is the Indian and Asian background .

No way it would be as good an area for NGA as the Casey areas .

I've been down on the Peninsula for 25 years now, and agree with what is being said, although not long ago Chinese people bought the house next door. I intend to catch up over that with the president of our local neighbourhood watch......a short, dark-haired little guy with a funny looking moustache.......
