2025 AFL Draft and Trade Dates:

Fri Oct 3 - Fri Oct 10: 2025 Free Agency Period
Mon Oct 6 - Wed Oct 15: 2025 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period
Wed Nov 19 - Thu Nov 20: 2025 Telstra AFL Draft

Walsh is an RFA but you would need Carlton to finish like bottom 3 for them not to match. I still think Walsh signs.

Butters more likely. Will be a very expensive trade (more than dangerfield).

Figures that we would be the only club to ever have to trade for not one, but three RFA's.

I still think Butters is more likely going to the Dogs

Surely we couldn’t get both?

I think it's possible as both are RFA and I think Blues will finish near the bottom so that will help us if they take the compo pick.

The problem will be matching other team's contract offers for them. I can see us missing out on them both as other teams will blow our offer out of the water unless we decide to change our payment structure.

Matching contract offers is not a Consideration for Geelong as it is never part of our pitch.
Players considering Geelong are not doing it for the money.
You come to Geelong for success, lifestyle, coaching and good money.

Butters will choose Cats because of the lifestyle it affords, the location to his preferred living arrangements the potential for success and the coaching available.

He will choose Dogs because of the money and location.
I don't see Walsh wanting Cats, he strikes me as more a money and city person.

I think they will come somewhere between 6th-10th.

Don’t write them off. When their midfield trio is firing they are a bloody good side and hard to stop. It’s Walsh cripps cerra who light them up at times.

If I was a betting man, I would also be putting a lot of money in the young lad coming off his ACL to take out the rising star award… Jagga smith

The loss of curnow won’t hurt as much as people think. McKay is more than capable of holding down the fort and they often got in each others way

They lost Curnow and have also lost TDK and JSos as a team that lacks depth and came 11th already only on % or could've finished as low as 13th.

Their midfield might improve, but their forward line has gotten worse with Curnow and Owies leaving the year before which was 2 of their 3 leading goal kickers in both 23/24.

I can't see who kicks their goals if McKay is quiet. Perhaps Evans can have a day out, but he's not consist as Oweis who kicked 60+ goals over 2 years for them.

And TDK is more then a handy ruck for them.

On paper, they look worse then this year as a team to me at least. I have them as a bottom 5/6 teams which places them around 13th/14th.

The AFL will change the zones or rules anytime we have a gem coming thru. Bookmark it. Rookies like mellor they don’t give a stuff about us getting

This is the first time that a change to the academy rules has had an impact on us

Besides that though, we've been one of the club's leading the charge for changes to the rules, so privately we may not be as upset as some fans may be

Are you assuming they sack Voss before preseason gets serious?

If he is still their coach they are no shot to finish 6-10

😂

Sometimes I think the top few teams have it too easy.

Every year you can almost guarantee 2 teams imploding, 2 teams peaking too early and 1 team comprised of the walking dead.

I think Voss is a pretty ordinary coach as well.

I’m not going to argue too much anyone saying they will finish bottom 4. All valid reasons to say so. I just see the flip side that they have some serious talent still in that line up and can do a lot of damage on their day.

Are you honestly super comfortable playing them?? I’m not. Regardless of their form

Geelong shouldn’t be comfortable playing Carlton. Their recent record against the Cats is pretty good.

But their form against us is an anomaly compared to their overall record. They seem incapable of addressing adversity during a season, and then a poor run of form becomes extended to the point that it ruins their season. That is a sign of a coach that is unable or unwilling to adapt.

If his name was Bob Jones instead of Michael Voss he would have already been sacked, and to be honest would never have got a second chance at Carlton after the debacle that was the end of his tenure coaching Brisbane.

Long may he stay employed at Carlton.

Two big reasons why Carlton have had the wood over us.

TDK

20 disposals, 39 hitouts, 5 clearances, 1 goal
25 disposals, 34 hitouts, 7 clearances, 1 goal

Curnow

16 goals in his last 4 against us

I respect that teams can bounce based off an easy fixture and a good run of injuries these days, and they are not always the teams you expect, but IMO put a fork in them for a good while without TDK and Curnow.

All we need to do now is send Weitering on an all expenses paid vacation to Europe and then we'll be alright

If he wants to live near baccus marsh/darley it realistically has to be us or the dogs. I still think its a 50/50 if the dogs dont make finals again that could sway him to us.

But port will match no matter what and it will cost us a boatload in a trade.

I imagine he is shattered and probably held hope of a spot on some list. Nobody is buying atm his type of player profile
At least the SANFL gives him an opportunity to play well and give himself another crack at AFL.

The issue is more clubs are not interested in his athletic and god given traits more so than his ability to find the pill

The game is trending towards athletes more than old school footballers (unfortunately).

Agreed. It’s more about god given traits than learnt skills. The premise seems to be we can teach you how to play footy, but we can’t teach you how to get quicker more agile and jump higher or grow taller.

Key talls are expected to all be mark blicavs now, and all midfielders are expected to be elite runners either speed or endurance wise. And if you are slow… you have no place in the league
