A piece on Blakey

Just an FYI, the True Bloods podcast guys are interviewing Keane in the next day or so, and are calling for questions to ask him via their IG story.

I'm not on social media but here are some questions I'd like to see posed, if anyone wants to feed them through:

* who are some recruiters you admire and why? Is Stephen Wells the best in the business and, if so, why?

* relative to other clubs how much do we use data to inform our list management? (Obviously we don't know exactly everything other clubs do but I bet Chris Keane has a fair knowledge. Some clubs have embraced data in a much bigger way than other clubs - where are we on this spectrum?)

* what are some good stories from drafts gone by (doesn't have to be about Swans) - about where recruiting team has pulled out some cool, smooth moves to get the players they want effectively when they were in danger of missing (or thwarted another club's best laid plans)? What moves made by other recruiting teams made them laugh?

* what do you think about the idea that picks have a much different trade value on draft night compared to trade period and how can we exploit this, and do we do this already (and what are some examples)?

* what involvement (if any) will our recruiters (Keane, Giramondo, Monaghan) have with the AFLW trade and draft? How much do they work with the W list managers?

* how far into the future are we looking and planning? how did that help inform the decision to trade picks from future drafts (including in 2027)?

* what players are looking promising from our Academy in 2026 and 2027?

* are their any promising father-sons in the pipeline that are looking likely to be drafted?

There's a few to be getting started with. Let me know if you want more.

I'd listen just for those answers. Good questions.

I don't know. Maybe. I guess I mean I'm not on Facebook, Insta, Snapchat that kind of thing. Probably the same things that get classified as social media ban that is about to come into effect for under 16s. Is Big Footy on that list?
Not sure , i thought all online stuff was classed as it
A former Bulldog told me a few years ago that they were told to avoid social media and especially BF

The only correct answer to "what players are looking promising from our Academy in 2026 and 2027?" is:

"We're a bit disappointed with those crops. Clearly no AFL quality players & if I was a rival recruiter, I wouldn't even bother looking at them".

Don't forget to add some Boomer talk to really sell it to the recruiters, something about them being Gen Z and being really lazy and entitled.

A couple of media articles from the Newcastle camp

This link includes a video news report - worth watching

Lots of exposure.
Makes you wonder if there's value in playing VFL games in Newcastle, Wollongong and/or Coffs. We get SFA crowds in Sydney. Adults $5 a head, Auskick kids free. Merch on sale.

Thats such an excellent idea. I remember a few years back attending an Academy game at North Dalton Park in the Gong.
Id like to see them do that with Academy Games also instead of sending them out to Blacktown. With the AFLW theres a plethora of girls coming through the Academy from those 3 areas.
